One of the fundamentals in (at least my) religion is life after death, so just wondering what the non religious believe happens after death. Perhaps the limbo theory?
[EDIT]- a quote from Cultmeister "When I die, I will find out. Until then my focus is on life"

12 RepliesAtheistic views would mean you believe nothing happens after you die. Think of what it felt like prior to you being born and apply it to the other side of your existence. Agnosticism views that you either do not know or can not know (this varies a bit by person) what happens after death, and that either a theistic or atheistic approach could be correct. Basically you find out when you die. If you wake up in the afterlife, you got your answer. If you don't wake up in the afterlife... well you don't exist anymore so it hardly matters. Theistic views are what many people are familiar with. Their are tons of different interpretations in this area, ranging from the Abrahamic religions (Jewish, Christian, Islam) to the Asiatic religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism) to all sorts of different kinds of religions that are all over the world and insanely varied in their beliefs. I literally could not list them all here because the number is so great. You also see people who either don't care at all and believe it's meaningless (nihilism) or have just never flat out heard of the stuff or even pondered it before. Tons of different flavors exist, and they're not always mutually exclusive. This is often a point of contention for people, as people tend to hold these sorts of beliefs very close to their heart. It's no surprise either, after all, many of these beliefs can define how they view themselves as a person. It's important to recognize this and not to attack them for it. Their beliefs do not invalidate yours. At the same time, your beliefs do not invalidate theirs. Just make sure that we can all get along and not be jerks to each other so that society can keep advancing.
tl;dr Atheistic=We cease to exist after death. No gods. Theistic=We continue to live after life. Gods exist. (This varies.) Agnostic=Either don't know or can't know. We're all stuck here in this reality one way or the other, so let's not be asshats to each other.
This is what I think; when you die, there's a waiting line for taking the spot of the next baby animal to be born, or any other living thing to be created, which means that we are the same batch of souls that we were millions of years ago.
Yes, I am atheist and I still believe we have souls
I choose to be agnostic because imagining life after death being an endless black void of emotionless, never-ending forced slumber of no thoughts is pretty radical. Religion is also very radical, which is why I'm not religious, but being agnostic is neutral. Even being Deist is good. People need to stop worrying about the "how's and why's" of life as we know it, and accept the fact for what it is. Who cares if some higher power made us? We should care, because he made us after all, but if he made us to exist in our current state, I doubt he would want the human race to be like a giant cult following and worshipping him. Whatever the case may be, you're alive, I'm alive, he's alive, she's alive, some people die but nothing has ever existed that will not come to an end eventually. Moral is, worry about God and the afterlife after YOUR LIFE is finished (in the event that there is an actual afterlife). If there is no afterlife or God, then after you die, you'll have nothing to worry about because you'll cease to exist to further impact the world. This is the way of agnostic. Indeed. Mmmmm

1 ReplyNothing. A terrifying thought, but I believe so. As you stated in your edit, I'd also like to focus on life now.

2 RepliesBeing an agnostic myself, I can tell you that I honestly don't really care to think about what comes after death. Whatever happens, happens. If hell truly is a pit of fire and I get thrown in it, so be it. If we all just pop out of existence just as quickly as we popped in, so be it. If I come back reincarnated as a tree or something, so be it. Whatever happens, happens.

Nothing.

Nothing, really. Most of us think you just cease to exist on a spiritual or mental plane.
