I've been farming the chests a bit and I've noticed people aren't correctly using the scorch cannon. Which is fine, that's what these bounties/ events are for. Don't be afraid to pick it up and get xp like people are with the relics in vog. But also be respectful and give others the opportunity as well
When you fire a shot, the projectile is more of a mine. Shoot, hold the trigger to charge it up and let go when you want it to explode. You can cause more damage like this. Treat it as a fusion grenade. Land the shot on the enemy and hold the trigger. There is 3 damages stages/ multipliers. You'll hear a beeping noise that changes as you hold it. Itll also grow brighter each of the 3 stages. Then let go when you want to blow up your target. If you hold it too long it will disable and not cause damage so make sure you do let go at some point.
The cannon also seems to be on a timer once it's picked up AND dropped.. Looks like it's about 20 seconds if no one grabs it after its been touched/ picked up so be weary of that if your alone and switching weapons. Looks like you can keep resetting the timer by picking it up and dropping it.- thanks trunkmonkey75
And bring arc weapons. Not necessary but it helps especially if you're alone. Thunderlord, found verdict and fang of ir yut has been my combo.
Edit : Also have fun with it but try to save a few shots for the final wave and event boss. You'll want to be doing this in prison of elders so get in the habit of not wasting it early. Maybe wait a wave or 2 before picking it up.- thanks jaycally
I hope this helps a few of you. Go try it out, it's kind of cool. Thanks everyone that posted. I know these events are easy but it's good to discuss mechanics for the dlc when things get tougher.
Mlg pro tip: plant your shot right under the drop ship, charge it fully and as soon as the enemies touch ground, boom! Helps to clear waves faster if you're trying to maximize your farming time. Or use your gjallarhorn as some have mentioned.

3 RepliesAnd not many people charge it before they fire, sad misusage of a great weapon.
-
Man you better not let me pick that sum bitch up I'll just spray that shiznit all over the world like a garden hose I mean hittin buildins and shit shootin at the moon killing atheon I'm just a boss man
-
3 RepliesIt doesn't disarm it should just explode at max damage for holding it..
-
Shoot it at the floor where the fallen will jump out of the drop ship
-
1 Replyi use them exclusively on the turrets. if one guy does that with his cannon and the other 1-2 guys clear the trash mobs with them, it goes so easy. then you each fire a rocket or two and the boss is done.
-
1 ReplyNoobs fire the Scorch Cannon and hit nothing. Average players fire the Scorch Cannon and hit Captains. Pros fire the Scorch Cannon and hit the ground.
The enemies drop into the explosion radius.
-
1 ReplyYou can one-shot the ship turrets. When I am solo I only use it for turrets and charging on non-shielded bosses.

1 ReplyEdited by EditDesync: 5/18/2015 4:48:48 AMThis guy is incorrect. Charging increases blast radius. ACCORDING TO: sc Slayerage aka the Legend Himself. It does the same damage per shot no matter what.
-
1 ReplyAnd try to detonate when your target is in close proximity to other targets.
-
4 RepliesProtip: You cant blow yourself up with it.
-
1 ReplyHonestly, I didn't know, thanks buddy.
-
Knew all that except the last one. Great idea! I'll try it out tomorrow.

Defender Titans, equip Weapons of Light! Stick target, use bubble for cover, profit from damage boost.

2 RepliesGally w/wolfpack + scorch hammer=you can solo dis

1 ReplyHave someone else on you fireteam. Have them summon their sparrow and get off. You can stick the cannon to the sparrow and your friend can drive into the herd and you release the trigger. Easily the best and most fun way! You can also attach it to a dropped scorch cannon. Enjoy this method!

11 RepliesI haven't noticed a damage increase when charged. It does seem to increase the BR though.
-
1 ReplyYou should add the the best way of using it solo is when you see the drop ship, Plant a scorch cannon right where they are going to land and charge it x3. The blast will be big enough to kill all enemies in 1 shot.
-
1 ReplyThis is great advice. The first thing everyone should know is that they should only start picking them up when you really need them. Wait a wave or two before you grab one.
-
I picked it up and dont charge any shots. What can i say, i'm a rebel
-
3 Replies"Just the tip"... Yeah, I used that back in the day.
-
Don't use it on vandals and dregs. You only have 10 shots, and just firing it will be 2 shots per captain. Only shoot captains servitors and bosses.
-
Proper use is equipping your G'horn.
-
7 RepliesI will wait until the boss is one shot, shoot and hold it while I run closer to the chest spawns in hopes of saving time.

I hate being there with like 6-7 guardians standing around and they all have Ghorns except me, they gang up on my and literally beat the shit outta me. But last night I turned up in skywatch and 5 guardians there all waved at me and I realized they all had Hawkmoons the same weapon I had equipped at the time.

4 RepliesEdited by BVRPLZR_: 5/18/2015 1:59:12 AMI haven't noticed a timer from the initial drop. I like to leave them on the ground until the last wave to help with damaging the boss as they are incredible bullet sponges.

1 ReplyI fire it, hold and watch my intended target get demolished by 5 or 6 guardians with shotguns or Gjallarhorn. It's more like a target marking device for Gjallarhorn. lol
