It was a place for indie devs to be able to get funding for games they felt passionate about, but it's quickly turned into a "fund the big names and developers"

Who else was going to pay and publish games like Banjo Kazooie and Megaman? Microsoft doesn't think a game like B&K that can sell today and Capcom pissed off Inafune to the point that he quit and doesn't want anything to do with gaming in Japan. I'd much rather have a spiritual successor to both on Kickstarter than them going to EA or Activision and get a microtransaction and DLC'd BK and MM game.

I'd much rather have a platform where funding for games goes towards new ideas and franchises.
