Ofcourse a crisis isn't always a life or death situation, but this has never been a crisis. It will never be a crisis because Bungie has competent developers that caught the bug before it went live, which is part of their jobs. Also, there WILL NEVER be a patch that deletes everyone's characters. It might be a rare bug that affects .5% of the playerbase but there will never be a bug of that scale. I might not have a lot of experience with developing, but I have developed for a game before and I can assure you extensive bugtesting is done to assure stuff like that never happens. It's as simple as that. Lastly, all of our character data is saved on a server, is it not? What're the chances of said server not backing itself up so that in the HIGHLY UNLIKELY event that a bug that deletes your characters ever did surface, they could roll it back? Pretty low, honestly.

  • The game you worked on can't be compared to Destiny. Destiny is a server based, mmo like, experience. Uniquely, The character data is server based. If the servers accidently received a bug that made them believe we deleted our characters. We will never get them back. How do I know this? I deleted a character and couldn't get it back. Support clearly stated everything is saved server side. If you delete it, its gone. So if a bug came out that made the servers believe we chose to delete our characters. There would be no backup. Of course, the date will still be there. However it may take weeks, and possible months to scavenge it. Secondly, Destiny Servers can possibly be attacked, due to Deej's premature announcement. That is Another way character data can be deleted, and worse account info stolen, If The problem was a firewall hole in the servers, then making an announcement without know the problem before, would make hackers curious to check the servers, or more likely to try hacking. Ask Sony. They went through that debacle, and acted similar to how bungie is now before the hack. Either way, Destiny isn't just a game. It's probably closer to a Second Life. If you put in 400 hours on one character and still believe your playing a game. Then I'm sorry. Some of us play Destiny to escape the real world. Why? Because we had enough of it. So if a delay occurs, to those individuals it's a crisis. Life or Death? Well, that depends on the life you live outside Destiny. I know an individual who nearly committed suicide. Guess what keeps that person alive today? Destiny. Its More than a game to some people, its an opportunity to start anew, and get away from life's problems. I haven't never seen a video game, save a life before destiny. So It's not Just A Game. To some it's a life.

  • Lol at 400 hours is a second life. Given the game has been out for a little over 250 days, that's about 90 minutes of gameplay a day. That's not a second life, that's a hobby lol.

  • That "bug" your describing is so elaborate that it sounds less like a bug and more like malicious software. And AGAIN, servers have backups, so if everyone's characters suddenly got deleted on a massive scale and people started complaining, they can roll them back. Also, you know nothing about hacking do you? Nor do you realize that Bungie would never announce they had a problem with their virtual security, they'd cover it it up with something else. You're saying Destiny isn't just a game, which yeah, I can agree, some people play games to get away from their lives. Yet, you don't realize that there's a very small portion of the playerbase who view it as more than a game, and you also don't realize that the Forums don't actually have a lot of the Destiny playerbase on them. So all in all, escapism is fine. A lot of people do that, but not many people actually become so absorbed that the game becomes life. Think about that. Also, if Destiny is the first game you've seen save a life, you're not looking very far.

  • A bug in the coding can be caused by malious software, but can also be caused by corrupted or incompete code. Bungie themselves have admitted they make mistakes, so is it farfetched to see a patch go wrong? No, of course not. Like I said before, they have the data, but there will be no fast rollback if it's lost. They don't have a backup server standing on standby to store data. Instead, they have the data compiled in code, sent to multiple terabyte servers for storage. CODE. If characters got deleted it would take a good few weeks or months to recompile the code from those servers. They were designed for secure backup. So expect alot of time to pass. Finally Video Games, have taken lives more often than ever saving one. Whether shootings, robberies over consoles, or hell spouse assault cases involving an Xbox. When do you ever see on the news, that video games saved a life? I have seen horrible news, and when a video game is involved is usually ends bloody. One time a kid shot his mother over getting his console stolen from him. 13 years old a murder. It's like an drug addict to some. Hell, even worse for others.
