I guess they don't know that Word of Crota's Phantom Gift doesn't work with explosive rounds or hive disruptor...

Problem is you are using explosive rounds. Also the explosive rounds records all damage so you may be hitting a crit and the explosion's blast is hitting the body confusing the perk.

Hive Disruptor also ruins it.

Its probably because the explosive rounds make it hard to distinguish between crits
