I'm level 25 and have been running daily strikes for the last two and a half days alternating between the 24 and 26-level lists. (Mainly because fighting +1 level enemies is absurdly unfun.) I have the most light-granting blue gear possible and have not, in hundreds of loot drops, found better pieces.
The only way forward seems to be through farming or praying to Peter Dinklage for a random Legendary drop.
So my question is as follows:
Is this the intended Destiny experience, or am I missing something?
I bought both of the DLC packages and can't even see the later levels of the Dark Below because it's a higher level than I can complete. I realized I have just enough Vanguard Marks to buy a piece of gear, but I apparently need to grind out my reputation to open it for purchase.
Please tell me this isn't how the game is supposed to be played.
Please.

That's EXACTLY how this game is. Apparently this game isn't for you.

1 ReplyDo bounties for vanguard rep I don't know why so many people are dumb and don't do bounties. Get to rank 2 and buy boots and gauntlets. Upgrade them and your 27. Do weekly heroics at 24 to buy exotics from xur. Get to rank 3 vanguard and buy the other armour. Now grind your dailies for the ascendant energy. Get to 28 ish, find group for vog normal. Upgrade armour until 30. Run crota every week for 32 gear. HoW: run nightfall and 32 prison of elders for armour and etheric light Upstage and 34
-
Do weekly heroic for strange coins to but exotics.. And grind play list strikes to buy vanguard legendary armour, that will get you to 31
-
The easiest and safest way for you is, to play VoG normal mode to get armor which will bring you at first to lvl. 30 or farm bountys to lvl. Up fast vanguard crucible or one of the three other vendors to lvl. 2 for the armor :)
-
If you'd done vanguard bounties each time they were available to you whilst you were working your way up the levels, you'd be at the required rep level. The rep level you need is level 2. Thats 2-4 sets of bounties if you start from zero. Hardly a grind.

Get the marks and buy legendary gear from vendors and as soon as you hit lvl 27 get onto an lfg and look for a Sherpa group running vault of glass (Sherpas are people like myself that help out inexperienced players raid to get some raid gear for maxing levels)
-
4 Replies1.play the raids 2.put on gear from said raids 3.level up gear 4.max level Its that easy why would you grind stikes all day when there's raids.

1 ReplyEdited by Sarden: 5/15/2015 8:01:56 AMTime to make some friends, join a clan or a community there are many out there. Run Vault of glass with friends or clan mates, that will easily get you to 30. Participate in Iron Banner if PvP is more your thing. I have three 32s so you can't tell me it can't be done, you're not trying hard enough. If you're on the PS4 add me and I will help you, my Tag is Sarden look for the red Phoenix. The game is easy but it requires you to play with people, getting gear is easy through nightfalls and raids but this requires group play.

R u on ps4?
-
You can buy legendary gear with vanguard points.
-
You played all that much and your vanguard quartermaster isn't at least lvl 3? :o... If he is, buy him a piece of armor (should already buy at least 2 pieces) buy an exotic armor from xur today...upgrade those, next week buy another piece from the vendor, and get your ass into crota when you hit lvl 28, to get at least 2 pieces of armor
-
Yes. And like many others have said you should play a different game. Videogames are for having fun. When it feels like work it's not worth it. I play for the shooting mechanics, the social aspect and hopelessly waiting for the (insert preferred profanity here) ... Gally to drop. Btw - getting from lvl 25 to 30 is the longest grind of the game. It does get easier and better once you can do NF's and raids. Good luck guardian.

Edited by Bongwater: 5/15/2015 7:33:37 AMIt's called the grind for a reason, you have no choice
-
This might not be the game for you.
-
You could just wait a week and buy lvl 32 gear in the tower. But yes, getting rep and marks to get gear is how the initial phase of light leveling works at the moment.
-
Just do some vault of glass. If u are on xbox one just message me and I will Sherpa u around

Edited by OC Jeffrey: 5/15/2015 4:58:38 AMIron banner, crucible, strikes, use marks to buy armor......plenty of ways to get legendaries as a lower level, just gotta be willing to put in some time, it took me like 2 weeks to get from 20-25 when I first started playing :P as far as drops go it's mainly luck man, some days you'll get like a whole legendary armor set, and some days you won't get jack shit
-
Man if only there were a place where you could buy legendary gear from grinding and not waiting for a lucky drop....
-
Finish the Eris story line and she'll give you some legendary arm pieces.. Max out you vanguard marks and buy some boots, that should get you to 28 (ish) and do some VoG and try to get some armor there.. The grind gets easier as you get better gear, but the grind is always present.. If you're on PS4 add me and I'll help you out- BuckNasty559

Play strike playlists/crucible to earn marks and reputation. When you have a faction at rank 3 you can buy pieces or legendary armour from said faction.
-
3 RepliesTry raids
-
Vanguard gear will take you to 31 till Tuesday that is. But then raids and stuff are easier to get into.
-
Play some more, get 200 vanguard and crucible marks.. Wait for the 19th and buy shit then..
-
Time to put on your big boy pants and get those motes of light
-
Do some crucible so you can buy a piece from those vendors too. Don't wear a class faction item, just work on vanguard for now. The daily gives good rep, as well as doing a public events each day. Do bounties, as many as possible (good way to get rep, and can mostly be done while running strikes). You can hit lv26 with only blue armour, just look for light level and don't worry about perks. You earn enough marks in one week for either gloves or boots. If you do crucible too then you can buy one from there (separate currency). Next week you should be able to earn enough for helmet/chest. Once you hit 27 get into a normal vog run with experienced people that will teach you as you go (Sherpas if you don't have willing friends).

Get marks and buy tower gear
