In preparation for TOO I'm running Skirmish a lot, normally I do fairly well but yesterday I had 2 games with some amazing snipers in which we lost massively. So, any talented snipers want too help me out? Which scope would you use and how to get those quick accurate shots off? I normally use efrideets spear. Thanks guardians!
Edit: Some great advice coming in, so far it seems pradyths and longbow are better for accuracy and a great start, also had some very informative methods of fire- thanks for all the suggestions guys!
Edit 2: 126 replies, I never expected to get this much response! I am reading every single post- thanks to everyone who replied.
Edit 3: Were trending!

I've done quite a bit of sniping in skirmish so I think I can help you out. Learn your character and discover the best methods of sniping on that character. Figure out how to make the opponent uncomfortable by using different perks to get an advantage like angel of light or QuickDraw sniping (this is extremely helpful it's pretty much snapshot and single point sling at all times) or I've seen some exceptionally good Titans use shoulder charge as a mobility option. Learn your map. I can't stress this one enough. Learning a maps choke points and figuring out your enemy's tendencies to certain areas can make or break you. Also it's good to know what kind of distances you'll be sniping at to pick which sniper you'd want to use or which scope. Learn when to back down. I spend quite a bit of time running away from people in skirmish and I'm not ashamed at all. If you feel you're at a disadvantage, then you probably are. Run away and live to fight another minute. Also this is where map knowledge plays a huge role, if you know your opponent has an aggressive playstyle you can lure him to a choke point and snipe his head off the second he turns the corner. Have fun. Sniping is probably the most rewarding type of kill in destiny because it rewards skill and intellect above all else. Happy hunting fellow guardians! Also, a few of my favorite snipers. Prudence - high rof and can be much better than praedyth's if you have the correct roll Longbow - high aim assist, pair this with snapshot and you're in business Patience and time - slow ads but extremely pleasing to get a kill with this + the third eye perk is a godsend. Efrideet's spear - there's a lot of hate cycling around for this gun and its final round use. I have one and I have the perk but I ALWAYS aim for the head. What's weird is that sometimes even without final round I can OHKO someone from a body shot. The chosen - this was my first legendary so of course it makes this list. Icebreaker - if you were good at quick scoping on any call of duty, this gun is exceptionally great at it. Also, regenerating ammo is never a bad thing

1 ReplyUse a sniper with a high rate of fire and a good range

I'm not a fantastic sniper by any means, but what seems to help me is find where head level would be, like how tall a guardian would be, and aim for the head. Once you have that, only strafe left/right with the left stick. From there, it's just timing

Edited by Kalis Durzan: 5/14/2015 12:26:00 PMTip 1: aim for the head. Tip 2: pull the trigger. Tip 3: hope Bungie's dodjy hit detection dose not screw you over.

1: Praedyth's revenge 2: ambush scope 3: ???? 4: profit

Aim, pull the trigger.
-
Aim for the head constantly, or if you get a body on first shot, the head doesn't matter.

15 RepliesAdvice from a seasoned skirmish player and sniper: 1) go with the LDR or LONGBOW or PRUDENCE II (these are the only snipers you should be using for ultra competitive matches seeing as they have among the highest target acquisition and the biggest headshot boxes; trust me, they're great) 2) the best scope is largely up to preference, but it mainly boils down to ambush or short gaze. I prefer short gaze because I think it provides a more pinpoint reticle than ambush, and it feels faster. 3) First main upgrade: every upgrade in this slot is negligible, so don't worry too much about what you get on a random roll; it's not important. 4) middle column of three perks: THIS CAN MAKE OR BREAK YOUR SNIPER. In a perfect world, you'd want snapshot, send it, and field scout all in the same column, but this is a rarity beyond belief. The best perk you ask? It depends: on a bladedancer with the QuickDraw perk, go with send it--it will increase your target acquisition as well as your headshot hit box, allowing for less room for error in your most critical moments. On any other class, you may want to go with snapshot for quicker zooms, for it will give you that crucial time to align your shots. IF YOU DON'T GET SEND IT OR SNAPSHOT ( or even field scout), YOU WILL BE AT A DISADVANTAGE, SO LOOK FOR THOSE ABOVE ALL. 5) third column: clown cartridge is probably your best bet, or outlaw. DO NOT USE FINAL ROUND UNLESS YOU WISH TO BE HATED BY EVERY COMPETITIVE PLAYER IN THE GAME INCLUDING ME. SERIOUSLY. Don't cheat. It's the biggest problem of balance in the entirety of crucible, so don't be apart of the problem and discourage your friends and teammates to do so as well. In fact, using final round should be cause for ban from events such as ToO. 6) which is the best class for sniping? Honestly, I've seen striker Titans outsnipe a hunter, I've sun singers snipe at ranges that only felwinters could normally compete at, and I've seen a bladedancer snipe two people at once while coming out of blink in mid air, so just use what your comfortable with; they can all be put to good use, although, admittedly, the bladedancer's QuickDraw perk does lend itself a hefty advantage. 7) other tips: look into Kontrol Freeks for faster aiming (I use elites and ultras, and I would not recommend the "SNIPR" style as they don't really fit the kid of sniping that you find in Destiny) Watch other good players, specifically, a twitch streamer named warbulletproof is probably the best sniper in the game hands down, and, interestingly enough, he uses a sunsinger. Also, What primaries should I use with my awesome sniper? This one's simple: thorn or last word, maybe hawkmoon. I honestly feel like I don't need to explain why. That pretty much covers everything to get your sniping game on point, and if you wish to see an example of a good roll on a sniper, you can check out the LDR on my hunter. Thanks for reading and good luck in the Trials!

There is only few tips but no matter what it is, you control the sniper. Skill required and practice nothing much. No skill just don't play
-
take cover, make sure to level out your cross hair at head heights, peek out quick and pull the trigger. make sure to be familiar with sniper points for each map. it takes practice
-
1 Reply1 shot with sniper, switch to primary and shoot 1-2 times. Rinse repeat

Get stability, impact and weapon of light buff, (1 body shoot kill, titan master class)
-
Use the ambush scope. Cross map? Ambush scope. No scope? Ambush Quickscope? Ambush 36000000? Ambush Ladder stall? Ambush
-
Heres one, dont get spotted and if you do, move spots. Ive killed so many dumbasses that way cuz they wouldnt move
-
For scopes nothing compares to ambush site unless its a map like first light then a more long range scope might be more appropriate. For long range sniping a high vantage point with cover is the easiest way to get kills but id suggest moving to another point regularly because people will fix on your position very quickly. And remember to have an escape plan, you will need it. For mid range sniping, basically just stand in a long corridor or stand in a open door way and let louse, but be quick cause with mid range sniping they can see you right away be confident your muscle memory and reflexes should be enough to get the kill if you don't think of it as training, in short who ever shoots first wins don't play the waiting game for to long! For switch sniping just be confident. its more something you pick up from mid range sniping its only useful in a panicky situation so not that important. If your a beginner i suggest P&T because of the high fire rate and stability along with 3rd eye and custom optics if your going to mid range snipe. After you have the swing of things switch to a high impact low rate of fire sniper. Their just all around better if your aim is true in my opinion.

Practice long range cross map head shots on the combined arms map (gives you more freedom to make an escape if you are spotted), if you can get used to identifying targets at long range you should find it easier to then bring that into more close quarters encounters

3 RepliesA) Try using snipers that have a high Aim-Assist stat... B) Get into to habit of sweeping (dragshots) C) Go on patrol, find something at head height and practice jumping around and zooming in quickly and hitting it... D) DON'T HARDSCOPE
