It's better to deploy single, less on your mind, actually all around, it's better to be single in the Military. Any distractions that can be eliminated to pay attention more to the situation at hand, wether it be for training, field problems, motor pool, deployment, or whatever, get rid of them and focus on the task at hand and your buddies around you.

That was a huge part of it. She got upset when I told her that for the next three years my job will come first and that's just how it is.

It really is though, you have to go in 100 percent or it's not fair to yourself or the men (or women) next to you. Some people are going to replace love with drugs, alcohol, or questionable sex, or the strip clubs off post. Just stay away from it man, congrats on serving and most importantly always look for the positive.
