There is no "counter" to Thorn -- most ppl saying otherwise are wrong
Most people claiming to have a counter to Thorn in the Control/Rumble Crucible matches don't have a good understanding of what a counter is.
Go ahead.... post up your counters to Thorn.
[spoiler]......and all the people posting things that the Thorn wielder can ALSO do while holding the weapon are not naming a counter.
Example: saying, "I strafe!!" is stupid. The Thorn guy can strafe too.

Of course TLW and Thorn users can be beaten BUT generally you have to rely on luck, which is terrible PvP design -- you'd need luck like:
A) the Thorn guy having much worse aim than you, or
B) you having more teammates with you to outnumber the Thorn guy(s), or
C) having to bring in your fireteam and hope to get matched up against randoms, or
D) getting the drop on a Thorn guy, maybe he's unaware enough to let you get in behind him.

Basically, the only possible ways to try countering Thorn that may have a hope of reliability are.......
[spoiler] heavy weapons or Red Death or other short-range overpowered weapons, like TLW or Vex or shotguns or fusion rifles).

Only thing I have found that works is to keep bouncing their head with bullets, makes it hard to aim, also I have started to take the death when I'm nearly dead and poisoned and focus on bringing them down with me, no running away, every now and then you don't die

Red Death is very good against thorn especially with unflinching. Usually if I don't die quickly I will beat the thorn user, especially at distance, even if the DoT is killing me the Red Death perk will keep me from dying from it

I disagree with your argument that it's "luck" that someone shoots you first or has better aim than you. Regardless of what gun they are using, if they get the drop on you or have better aim than you then how can you argue they beat you unfairly? Not saying I'm great at PvP but I don't have a problem losing to someone better than me.

Actually, mida multi tool seems to be murdering people before they thorn gets its second hit on me. At least for me it does, I tend to use scouts as my main gun anyways. But thorn users on PS3 don't seem to have the best aim

I have better luck using my suros and vex kid. I have beaten more than a few thorns with both of them. Quit crying

I'm so tired of hearing this and that about the thorn... It has a major weakness, there are more then a few ways to win fights against it... I use the mida and a high agility build, it works very well, I win almost every single fight against the thorn, call it what ever you want...it works... OP or not it doesn't matter...nerf it, buff it at this point I just want to go to the forums with seeing this crap... If it was so OP why isn't every single guardian that uses it have a k/d of 25 or more every game... I hope bungie does something...I don't care what!

5 RepliesI'm always confused by these posts. What exactly are you imagining? Two guardians of exactly equal skill meeting like two mythical wild west gun fighters in some long corridor, each pulling the trigger of their respective weapons at exactly the same time and then seeing which one dies first? Because that isn't what happens. Ever. Instead, one player fires first. If they have good aim and the other player isn't holding a OHK in their back pocket, then player 1 wins. If player 1 has bad aim and player 2 has good aim and starts firing soon enough then player 2 wins. If either has a ohko in their back pocket then that player wins (or they kill each other). I died a LOT in Iron banner, and at no point, outside of the obvious laggers, did I ever think "I should have killed that player but didn't because they had thorn". When you die in crucible, it's either because you got outplayed, the other player benefited from network issues or you walked into a bad situation. The end. That player that killed you with Thorn? If they had had another primary equipped they would have beaten you with that instead. Stop making excuses and embrace the mediocrity.

You make it sounds like there are no option to move and it s just fixed guns shooting at each other... Best solution is to kill them first.

Use a thorn. Lol. It's really that simple. You expect for there to be a sure fire counter? Like if someone uses thorn and you use [insert specific counter], you'll win 100% of the time? Lmao.

the only counters to thorn I know of are not being seen by a thorn user i.e. killing him from behind or the side camp with a shot gun until a thorn user is in range get the first shot on a thorn user which doesn't always work since thorn is so powerful use other people as cover or distractions and heavy weapons which again wont always work especially if you have a crappy machine gun

thorn is strong, but I wish scrubs like you would stop moaning about it. You counter any player with good character position and team map control that's how you win any game regardless of weapon used.

1 ReplyRed Death and Vex Mythoclast CANNOT BEAT THORN. Trust me, I use those weapons most of the time. The Last Word can, but under very specific circumstances. One-shot kill close range guns like shotguns and fusions seem to be the best way. Thorn>some LMGs, but some beat it outright like Jolders Hammer or Thunderlord.
