I was just playing vog with some friends on quite a joyous day. We finally put down that pesky Templar and made our way to the maze but before the gorgons there was just one more stop, the chest of 1000 tears collected from the exoticless guardians who fall prey to its trickery. But not today I said I shall conquer this beast of a chest. As I entered the room it was quite mundane but I knew the evil that awaited inside. I quickly ran towards the chest using my superior skills to reach it quite unscathed by its awesome power. When I finally reached the chest thru all of my blood, sweat and tears I was asked to " hold X for loot". At this point I was unsure if had had the strength to carry on but I let out a mighty battle cry and jammed down that X button. The pain was almost unbearable but I knew I must carry on so I dug down deep and finally opened that chest. And behold Thunderlord once I received it could hear from the heavens none other then Zeus beckoning "with great power comes great responsibility". So my question is did I "EARN" my Thunderlord.

You earned it because you did the raid to get to the chest.
-
Exotic bounties and Xur
-
U can't it's all RNG
-
You earn.a gun by doing exotic bounties.
-
You only "earn" a gun from that chest if you hold a 20 minute congregation to RnGeusus before opening the chest.

Best way I found was to put destiny in the garbage

Yes. Because of the super awesome way you described the drop.

1 ReplyWe and my squad have carried people through raid that are barely even high enough to get into a hard raid, and they have gotten ghorn, I'm a lvl 32 sword bearer with 100+ crota kills and still haven't gotten that ghorn, so the answer is no

You don't earn weapons in this game, the tools are unimportant it's what we will do with them that will make us legends
-
Grind out night fall strike ect to build up strange coin just to buy exotics from xur. That's earning but idc if I get it from a random drop or buy it at the end of the day I have it.

My understanding of the RNG system in Destiny is a unique one. I hear people say all the time you have to grind and play lots to "earn" the weapon you want (they fail to mention that they got the weapon early in their games without working for it). Getting an Exotic weapon drop is a bit like searching and searching and digging all over for buried treasure, and when you find the x and dig down to a chest, you open it up and inside is a slot machine with only one roll. And if you don't win that roll, it's time to go look for another buried slot machine. Sadly, I don't necessarily think you "earned" the gun. But I'm happy that you got it, as we all know that pain of denial each time we have a chance to get an exotic and we get shards instead. And I'm sure, by the way you've described it, you are familiar with that chest and have checked it a hundred times, so you've done atheon a lot. And in that sense, maybe you did earn it in a cosmic karma sort of way.

Ironically enough, the closest thing to earning something is to grind for strange coins/ marks and xurn/ buy the stuff.
-
You can't simple

I may or may not have gotten a gjallahorn and a last word out of that chest.

1 ReplyEdited by VisualTube83: 5/11/2015 12:24:09 PMTD/DR Exotic bounties. Yes getting the bounty is random but you have to work for the reward. Especially the Thorn bounty. Edit: okay i read your painfully to read post and my answer is NO. Edit2: I soloed nightfall to the very end and then invited two people. I got the Gjalarhorn and they both got Hardlight. Did I earn my Gjalarhorn?
-
all things considered, you really don't unless its an exotic bounty or raid weapon
-
You don't
-
If you put the time in every week to do the raids and weeklies as many times as possible then yes you earned it
-
4 RepliesLet not the elitist voices tell you that by buying a weapon from a man in the tower you have not earned it. Did you not earn the strange coins by doing weekly strikes? Have you not spent hours delving into the abyss, facing thousands of enemies only to come through unscathed? Each coin you have in your inventory, you've gotten from fighting. So, again, let no one tell you that you have not earned weapons

You played a game and got a good dice roll, bruh bruh.
