I just put two and two together and have found a small pice of information that may be useful in regards to halo 3 recon.
Halo 3 recon is surposed to take place in the city of New Mombasa, after the Profit of Regret's carrier ented slipspace with master cheif in hot pursuit in the friget In Amber Clad (halo 2 time). When the two ships left, the covenent carrier made a slipspace jump that I and everyone else thought had destroyed the city of New Mombasa. Halo 3's campagin surported this theory. Many times throught the campagin on earth, you see the city of New Mombasa in ruins in the backround, not to mention the New Mombasa space lift (the large tower that you can see in halo 2. Made to carry supplies to the orbital defence stations and help to construct non gravity rated ships in space). This is thousands of kilometers high and scattered across the enviroment of halo 3. I never thought anything alse about it, untill I heared that the new halo game (recon) was to take place in New Mombasa after the cheif and the profit of regret was surposed to have left for delta halo. But when you watch the clip that Bungie has relised on the campagin recon the city is perfectly fine and isn"t damaged at all. So whats going on?
I have came up with two explainations
1: Bungie has made a mistake (which they would not have done)
or
2: The city was not destroyed in halo 2 but some time in between halo 3 recon and halo 3.
This would mean that halo 3 recon is going to have an epic battle that will destroy the city of New Mombosa bringing to the end of the game halo recon. Also if you look closely at the video on New Mombasa getting swamped by the slipspace energy you never see anything blowing up or falling down.
I just want people to comment on this and hear their views.

during the H3 recon video you see the space lift still standing in the backround but in halo 3 it is collapsed. During halo 2 you see the slipspace jump happern right over the lift so the question is what destroyed the tower/city in halo 3 recon.

Obviously the closer it was the more damage there was. We should believe we are seeing it from one side.

in the video it was either the ODSTs vehicles, A covenant bomb, or the slipspace rupture. If it was the Slipspace rupture the ODSTs would have been thrown off course and that wasnt the case. I find it hard to believe that the ODSTs vehicles can maneuver in the air though...

New Mombasa is huge. Truths cruiser only went into slipstream in the center, it didn't level the whole place, I mean in the cut scene of "In Amber Clad" coming out of slipstream there was only a couple of buildings, not the whole city. I guess New Mombasa probably got partially glassed at one point or another.

yes exactly so what destroyed the New Mombasa sky line if is not the slip space jump?
-
yes after the drop pods not the slipspace explosion
Posted by: Bungie Weekly Update. I read on some Liveblog that Master Chief got out of the drop pod? Negative, ghost rider. Instead of playing as the Master Chief (like players did in Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3) in H3: Recon, players take control of an ODST (an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) who entered orbit just after the slipspace rupture on New Mombasa (that event, you recall, took place as Regret left the planet – and in Halo 2, you followed him as the Chief). Now, players will learn more about what happened on New Mombasa during some of the events of Halo 2.
I think you should watch it again, everything is destroyed.
Posted by: Yhuuzan Vong
Posted by: TX Avenged Halo 3 Recon is set during Halo 2.
Shouldn't it be called Halo 2: Recon then?
Don't ask me, ask Bungie. But it's set during Halo 2, it's in the Weekly Update.

It didnt destroy it... It just threw the -blam!- around ALOT... Human structures would be strong enough.
