Etheric Light needed to upgrade ALL weapons even HOW vendor guns? Why?
So I was watching a video by DattoDoesDestiny and he said that the vendor weapons will only go to 331 and you will need etheric light to get them to 365. Why?? I though that was only for existing guns. shouldn't the vendor guns start at 331 and go to 365 simply with ascendant shards just like in the dark below dlc (started at 300 went to 331)??
if this is true whats the point of even buying any new vendor guns when we can upgrade our better guns from previous drops/raids with etheric light? who would choose a vendor gun over a raid gun? i thought we were getting more options for upgrade paths not less?
edit: I can only say that etheric light will NOT be easy to get (other than nightfalls) and I can already see this backfiring on bungie since we will be so dependent on it but it wont be easy to come by.. Using one currency to upgrade both armor AND weapons seems a bit ridiculous especially when these things don't drop like radiant shards/energies.

2 RepliesIts a stream lining going forward. In The Awoken King gear will likely start at 365 and go to whatever max is with that expansions version of Etheric Light. It would be dumb to have them start at 365 or to keep the shard economy going.

3 RepliesIt's funny I created a similar thread a few weeks back, and the trolls went to town. This is the truth. Etheric Light is going to be the biggest pain, most hated thing in Destiny. Bungie have -blam!-ed up big time by adding yet another material, this one they can control easily and completely delay the upgrade of players. It will be as rare as -blam!- (when they want it to be). And to anyone who says "blah blah you get it in POE hard mode... Imagine having to do a raid for Exotic Shards in The Dark Below. That's a reasonable comparison. There is no way I'm grinding this game at that level again in hope of an upgrade material.

[/quote] New vendor guns have new perks and can be rerolled. New vendor gear looks better. Do you not want the game to last longer so that you hit that "I only play once a week" wall within a few days? Etheric light will not be hard to get but simply time consuming.

2 RepliesI'm so effing confused as to why Bungie feels the need to change upgrade paths and materials on a quarterly basis. Pretty sure I'm done after HoW. This is getting to be too much like work.

The way upgrading will work though is that the weapon will come at 331... you literally only fill your upgrades and ascend your weapon and boom... 365

6 RepliesBe happy you don't need etheric light for exotics. Least when I drop into prison of elders I'll have a 365 gjallarhorn. Hoping that after one run at the level 32 prison of elders I'll be level 33. Maybe after a week I'll have one character at 34 so that way I can run the 35 prison of elders and see if you get drops for all the lower level arenas

New vendor guns are rerollable like IronBanner weapons. That makes them worth getting. True etheric light won't be easy to get but lots of ways to get it between IronBanner, TrialsOfOsiris, Nightfalls, PrisonOfElders, and possible rewards in existing raids too if I'm remembering correctly

1 ReplyWhat I was thinking is that the old weapons from the vendors will not be able to be forged again. Or, maybe it is going to be that the new weapons will be able to have those new perks rolled while the old ones may not. Plus, there is the fact that the new weapons should, and probably will be, better than the old weapons. The vendors should evolve with the house of Wolves, yknow?

This game should not cater to people unwilling to grind. Also, one currency to upgrade all materials is a good system. It just won't be easy and it shouldn't be. People lost their minds about commendations. If Bungie introduced multiple materials to upgrade gear each expansion the community would explode. They're trying to refine their upgrade system and in game economy. The changes, as far as I'm concerned are a vast improvement over what we got with TDB. Edit. And to answer your "why bother" question. Personal choice? Some players don't like the look of the raid armor or the perks outside of a raid. Same goes for weapons. Everyone should have more options for what they choose to roll with in the game. Me, I worked my butt of with a pedestrian 1.20 k/d for my Iron Banner gear. My hunter will be forever in regalia. But the new warlock gear looks sick. Same with some of the new titan gear. That and perhaps some of the new perks sets will be preferred over old ones. Bottom line, not everyone thinks the same or plays the same. The option to upgrade everything obtained is far better than not having the option at all.

5 RepliesEsthetic light is replacing ascendant or radiant materials, so it should be fairly easy to obtain

Noob One material for both is easier. Think ascendant energy/shard. If you needed shards and had energy. No conversion. This eliminates the separate need or conversion as with radiants. So you don't need one or other. One works for both. Simpler and easier system.

You can roll the vendor guns for the best perks. People are definitely going to buy them

Because everyone threw a fit last time when vender gear automatically became better than raid gear. Too many people just throw a fit and don't think past the immediate situation. Want to see the drop rate for the upgrade and if there's a way to buy them or get them from breaking down some gear.

New vendor guns can be reforged and PoE weapons will already be 365 upon purchase.

It prevents the kids who played and stocked up their marks and quit and waited till HoW from passing us regulars. Dark Below's new weapon and armor pissed everyone off because our old gear was immediately useless. Basically it makes everyone have to put in work. It doesn't punish the hardcore and regular players and help the casuals. Our old guns and armor will not get any of the new perks that are on the new weapons and armor.

I think some HoW gear starts at 34 (like ToO gear from the scorecard), but others start at 32 and you have to update.
