So first off I understand the basic premise, people pay those they wish to support. I will also say that I don't watch any streamers, the closest thing I do is watch Planet Destiny videos to learn things about the game. Finally, let me say that I have no qualms with how these streamers make a living, if they can swindle hard earned money from idiots... more power to them!
With the guest appearances on Bungie's reveals though I've come in contact with a few live streamers, such as Gathelion, Triplewreck, and the God awful Professor Broman (my opinion), and decided to tune in during their streams.
For example, while I was watching Gathelion he simply was eating lunch and people were non-stop subscribing and tipping the man. All he did was munch away and say, "thank you "x"! ... WELCOME TO THE RAPTOR PACK!" every time someone gave him money. One guy even gave him $250 tip... For the 30 min. I spent watching his stream, the dude must have made over a few hundred dollars. Some people with actual jobs don't even make that kind of money.
Now I'm 24 years old, so I'm not that old, but I feel so out of place with how people now a days spend money on their entertainment. Has this really became what people value and consider as "entertainment?" I remember watching that episode of South Park about Pewdiepie and not really understanding it, but when I actually was part of the whole phenomenon, the episode makes a whole lot more sense. Why would people in droves, spend their hard earned money on these things? Again, I'm not complaining, good for them being ok with exploiting dumb people and making it lucrative, I'm just trying to understand the motivations behind the phenomenon. Any ideas?

2 RepliesThe real question that needs to be asked is why do you care what people spend their money on in the first place? You spend half your post mentioning how you don't care and it doesn't bother you when clearly it does. Otherwise you wouldn't have been compelled to make a post about it. How about other grown ups spend their hard earned cash on what they want and you worry about you? (I don't watch streamers and never have. I'd rather play the game. But I don't care what people spend their money on)
