Girls and Videogames
Okay so I got called out as an attention "seeker" (but we all know what word I was going for) for my username and profile pic being girl associated. Can anyone explain to me how being girly while gaming means that I want all guys to bow to me for being a holy female gamer?!

Edit 2: Thank you to everyone who actually made this a discussion; and to everyone else's rude comments, you only prove my point. It is clear that no matter what, anything that has to do with female gender on here will be a sensitive subject. But I honestly didn't think that there would be so much positivity from most of these comments! It was great talking to all of you!! :D
This is why the Internet exists. To express feelings and gain information. I rest my case!

One of my favorite people to game with is a girl. When I die I yell MAN DOWN MAN DOWN When she dies she yells DAMSEL IN DISTRESS We have a lot of fun together and I have no issues gaming with girls.

I would love to not get messages from dudes in a gross sexual nature. It happens literally EVERY DAY. It's gross. It's distressing at times. It can ruin how great you feel after a win. My Xbox avatar is a girl, because I am a girl. I'm wearing a Gears of War shirt and an N7 helmet. My picture is a special unlock able item from Mass Effect that's only available from beating the game on hardcore mode. My characters on Destiny are all females. Because I identify as female. I'm not trying to get attention from anyone (except my boyfriend, my best friend, my friends, etc.), I want to be left alone so that I can play. And don't -blam!-ing talk down to me like I don't know what I'm doing. I didn't get to level 32 by handing my boyfriend the controller while my manicure dried. Girls are just like any other gamer, so just leave them the hell alone.

My gamer tag used to be An0nCasanova and nobody knew I was a girl unless I told them, or spoke obviously lol c: But now since I'm Kat Sphinx it's kind of obvious, and when I post on the forums to get people for Raids I've seen a noticeable difference in how I barely get any replies now, which is a tad weird but not bother about it. All in all, I've posted a post like this a while back, and I've come to the conclusion that if they call you an attention seeker, treat you different, ect, then find new friends because they're just really immature [spoiler]omg another girl who plays destiny??? Wahhhhttt!?!?!?[/spoiler]

We have a few girls in my clan, including my wife. They are not treated any different than the others. Male or female doesnt matter we are all just gamers. We have one that used a GT to hide her gender because of asshats but after being with us she changed it because she doesnt need to hide who she is.

As a fellow girl, I try to hide my gender as well as possible with my name. No guys will come and mess with me, but it does get tiring having to never have my mic on and try and communicate to the dirty men. All they want is my body and it gets really annoying. If you're not using your mic it's very aggravating when anyone doesn't use their mic for that matter. 1 ReplyThe anonymity of the Internet allows people to ignore basic civility and instead embrace (and share) every crass thought that enters their mind. Right before the start of puberty, when insecurity really starts to set in, people tend to start seeking others just like themselves. Once in the safety of that group they tear down everyone different then themselves; race, gender, religion, social class all being used as weapons. Most of us eventually grow out of it or, at least, realize that kind of behavior makes a functioning society difficult. Unfortunately those that don't tend to be a very vocal, annoying minority. Your gamer tag gives this type of person ammo to use against you so you'll need to wade through the muck and find the grown ups (which doesn't necessarily equal physical age)

Because (unfortunately) people as a society feel the need to put silly labels on people so they can justify when something doesn't meet the criteria for what they class as "normal". I myself personally have no problems with someone's gender (or anything else that has to meet other people's standards)... If you're a gamer..you're a gamer, that's all that matters on my books =)

You forgot that all guys are virgin ( because they waste their time playing video games ) and think that they can make connection to girls , by the fact that they're helping them doing raid , acting like differently , or even saying compliments. You see , they're think that they're are the luckiest guy ever and act like it was some kind of date or sumthin' A girl is a girl , a gamer is a gamer , what's differences does it make ?

Most guys that play this game are virgins and have unwanted chastity rage. Most women on the internet are also douchey like guys and just hide it better. If they feel you are drawing attention away from them, the claws come out.

7 RepliesUnfortunately I usually opt to keep my gender hidden. I don't have time to deal with idiots, so when we got our clan together I was happy, as it meant I could speak while raiding or pvping without being ripped into. I'm still the only chick in the clan but the guys are great and we have a laugh.
