Why are Bungie/the community so against matchmaking???

Why are Bungie and so many players against matchmaking? Why is not giving people the option necessary? I can't understand how letting people choose would ruin the game or other peoples experience. In PvE it would only hurt the people using it. In PvP I understand it might make it easier for you elite teams out there, but it cant be that hard to match like for like teams so they don't have to meet. What are Bungie or you anti matchmaking activists afraid of? Edit 1, Same list of reasons as ever mics, afks trolls. How hard would it be to fix really. Match with or without mics. easy. Have a 2 or 3 strike rule on all activities or a week ban of said activity. Done. Might be more tricky but workable if they actually wanted to. And to repeat it would be OPTIONAL. Edit 2, Seems like a lot of people would be happy with an in game group finder, preferably with options/modifier's. The more I read the more the community seems to agree Bungie don't understand what the word "optional" means.

The point is that they don't want people to have a bad experience. Say matchmaking exists and you want to do your first ever raid. Instead of finding a group that all have mics, are appropriately leveled, and have maxed weapons, you get put in a group that half have mics, half are leveled correctly, and then 2 guys are minimum level so they do almost nothing with their blue weapons. After 3-4 hours you are barely halfway through and you are pissed. You think it's just that the raid sucks and are less likely to do it again or enjoy the game the way it is meant to be played. Also with matchmaking there is nothing to hold people in the game. If things aren't going well it's so quick to get a new team they will just leave. I know this wouldn't be the scenario for everyone but remember their goal is to make money. If people have a bad experience due to a scenario like this they may be less inclined to buy the next DLC or game; therefore, Bungie is losing more paying customers.
