For the purpose of this poll im going to create a hypothetical business model using Destiny as a base line.
If Destiny had released with...
>all updates and patches to date
EDIT: The above is ment represent a game that is as polished and patched upon release as a morden one that's already been out for 4 months.
>all the content of Crota, HoW, Crucible and Iron Banner to date
>a robust story with narrative and character development
>dedicated servers that easily handled the workload
...at launch, would you be willing to fork over the extra dough?
To put it another way: If paying an increased entry cost elimated Micro transactions, Season passes, Disc Locked content and dedicated DLC teams working alongside main title development which cuts into R&D time by including all of it in the day one package, would this increase in asking price be acceptable?
Update: For games that offer them, the elevated price also includes all content available through micro transactions.
(Excluding XP boosts)
Update 2: Current retail pricing
> Game $60
> Season Pass for 2 - 4 DLC Packs $30+
> Microtransaction content $10 - $60+
EDIT 2: Clarification changes
Update 3: A repost of one of my replies
For the better part of a decade Gamers have been paying the "usual" entry price for games even though everything else about the industry, including costs, has grown exponentially.
To use a simplified analogy...
Even though the price of gas has skyrocketed over the same amount of time, gamers refuse to pay more than $60 a pop at the pump. These gamers scratch thier heads when it doesn't take them as far as it used to and then cry foul when they have to return to the pump to drop another $10, $20 or $30 in order to go the same distance as before.
If you want to see how far $60 goes in the Modern Gaming Market, take a close look at annually released games like AC and CoD.

1 ReplyWhy would I pay extra for a game that should already have that much content at launch? Its sad now that the usual amount of content at launch is dwindling as time passes. I pay the usual price and no more
-
1 ReplyI generally pay around £30, even then I wait until most games come down in price
-
1 ReplyI've spent that on SNES games back in the day
-
1 ReplyFor something like fire emblem IF yeah For like 2 hour DLC for 20 bucks no
-
4 RepliesI paid € 99,95 for. Destiny limited edition. Been playing since day one. So it's worth the money in my opinion. People crying about spending more than 60 dollars for 500+ hours of fun. Go to a party and getting drunk takes 6 hours and the same amount of cash.
-
6 RepliesI pre ordered and well should of got the $99 cuz the dlc And maybe the ghost n ships ?
-
4 RepliesWhat micro transactions does Destiny have?
-
6 RepliesDepends. I like certain games. Would need to know what it is.
-
4 RepliesI have paid that much for a game. Several times. Steel Battalion. Rock Band. Guitar Hero.
-
Depends.....not destiny....but a fun games, yes

3 RepliesEdited by skittlez86: 5/1/2015 4:51:35 PMWe are almost there in Canada to download one cost $70

Yes if the content justified the price.

7 RepliesThis poll shows why we can't have nice things. Every year we say "We want bigger, better games! We want innovation!" News flash, guys: all those things cost money. And yet we aren't willing to pay for it? Couple this with rising development costs and inflation, and it's a wonder games have managed to stay at $60 all this time. And yet there are people even in this thread saying $60 is too much to pay for a game. Lmao. Why do you think there are micro transactions in every other game now? Game publishers didn't suddenly get any more greedy. It's a business.

1 ReplySo some people are saying it's not ok but they spend over $100 for a Cod crate with books and the game!? Wow you people are weird!
-
1 ReplyNo, but I wouldn't pay more than $30.00 for any game because I'm broke as hell.
-
With how inflation has gone and game prices staying relatively flat in the past couple decades we are long overdue on a price hike in games, but I guess dlc accounts for that. We should be thanking our lucky stars prices aren't higher already.
-
I would pay $90 for the destiny that was scrapped before release
-
4 RepliesI answered to quickly. So are you asking if we would pay $90 for the destiny that they promised us with them having not taken anything out and having each race and class having their own back story and it having more heavily concentrated story? Then yes. I would have. I bought the collectors edition which was a bit of $100 and that game we are hypothetically talking about is what I thought I was getting.
-
No I would not, honestly 60$ is a lot and when games are shipped broken it makes things worse. So if games started going for more I simply would stock up on old ones.
-
No. That's extortion IMO. While I understand the Art and mastery behind crafting a great game, and I can understand Art can command the highest price for the greatest of works, there is nothing about a video game that would tempt me to pay higher than the $60 USD that I pay now. If the price were to jump up to $90 USD; while I wouldn't quit gaming, I also wouldn't buy any new games whatsoever. I'd simply be happy playing the games that I have, and buying the same games for the PC (where they will always be much lower priced). But there is no way (and I swear this by my Gods) that I would ever pay $90 USD for a frackin' video game.
-
Ur kidding right? 90$? Fack no. 35-45$ is better price.
-
No, I would not. 90$ is too much for me to spend on a video game. I would only buy used if that were to happen.

Edited by daythin: 4/30/2015 2:55:28 PMAlso think of it this way... More and more games provide tons of hours worth of entertainment. So if you want to price things out do this: Dollar per Hour... If you're about to buy a game that you know you'll only play for 8-10 hours, but it's $60, don't buy it... If a game you want will give 60+ hours of gameplay, then hell yeah, buy it.
-
Edited by daythin: 4/30/2015 2:54:56 PMIf it's a game I REALLY REALLY want, then yeah. Discs have been $60 for years even though the quality has gone up exponentially over the same time. Game companies could've easily raised their prices but have kept it the same. Next gen games and future gen games will still be $60 even though they're worth more, so I don't mind paying $60-$120 for a game really want.

1 ReplyEdited by Inflicte: 4/30/2015 2:05:08 PMYes for the Destiny that was meant to be. No for a regular game.
-
No because that stuff should be in a game at launch for $60 heck all of it was on the disc so no I wouldn't
