Prison of Elders is NOT a horde mode
Horde modes don't have challenges.

The things we know about arena are:
1.) it has chests
2.) it has "challenges"
Neither of these things are in horde modes. When I think challenges I think CoD ghost Aliens. Completing a long-ish mission while completing challenges to earn extra prizes. What do you think it will be?
Edit: also look at how you rank up your House of Judgement rank. By killing fallen in the prison of elders. Why on earth would you earn experience for a faction solely by killing waves of enemies? At the very least, it will have bosses.

It's still going to be a horde mode, except it's not going to feel like one. Bungie had failure with firefight because it was too linear and offered small challenges, like bonus rounds which didn't matter much or elites in the higher rounds, also which didn't matter much. Bungie is most likely trying to make an arena type system where you travel through a prison and each time you enter the prison the next room is randomized, whichever path you take after clearing out the current room is random RNG. It could be a chest room, it could be a boss challenge, or another horde mode room. That's my honest prediction. Keep going through the prison I guess until everything is wiped. You most likely get rewards after each room.

1 ReplyI hope it does have challenges, and isn't just a horde mode. In fact I'm sure everyone hopes that it is more than just a horde mode. Considering every mission is basically horde mode.

Horde mode can have exactly all those things. Round 1-9: kill everything 10: kill boss 11: kill everything in 30 seconds 15: kill adds before boss and you get a chest 17: no ammo drops for this round 20: big boss; chest after Just an example but probably exactly what will be in PoE

Mass Effects MP was essentially a horde mode, and it had challenges.

Is this the thing that you have to do ToO to get a ticket for to try it? If so, wouldn't levelling up from kills acceptable as it won't always be open?

5 RepliesThe funny thing is that the horde mode in Gears of War 3 (the franchise that popularised the term 'horde mode') not only had challenges, but the reward for completing them was chests.

I'm hoping it's like the Arena in Asheron's Call. Each room has a progressively worse type and number of spawns (some unique to that room only). Also chambers with bosses for weekly exp/item that only that boss drops. On my phone so I'm too lazy to google and link it.

1 ReplyInsta opinion. That's such a fail you noob. Challenges could include killing a certain number of enemies with melee, or getting 20 precision kills, or maybe don't take damage for 15 seconds. It's like bounties but in the middle of a game. There's a game called call of duty ghosts, extinction mode has challenges.

3 RepliesI love the fact bungie has never said it was horde mode, but damn didn't everyone just jump to that conclusion! I'd love horde mode, but it'll be hilarious to see the world of butt hurt if it isn't! They'll be like 50 threads threatening to bring lawsuits against bungie! Lmfao!
