The only thing holding back latest gen is the game developers, last gen is still a very valuable market for developers so they will still make games for it. That's something you will have to live with. Money is more important than better graphics.

100% bullshit, bud. Cutting actual development time for a game in order to downgrade it to run on inferior hardware inevitably results in less content/ polish for said game. The flip side is to optimise a single version of a game to run on every platform, which results in games like Destiny. If you think that the fault falls upon the devs for trying to finish a cluster-fuck before launch date, then you should stop armchair deving. News Flash: a 360 or a PS3 can't run The Witcher 3, Halo 5, or Uncharted 4.

  • Erm..... You obviously don't really understand the world we live in, money is king. Making games for more consoles to enlarge the sales volume vastly out ways making a game for consoles with less sales potential, just so it's a better game. I'm not saying that it's the best option for gamers but that's the way it is.

  • The end result is that the majority of gamers are complete idiots, so I'm reluctantly inclined to agree.

  • I'd rather they used the full potential of the newest hardware but they still make too much money from last gen to ignore, they are businesses and any business is out to make as much money as possible.
This gen is being held back worse that previous generations were. But it is being held back by the consumer. They are being vocal and the companies are listening and reacting. But since the consumer is stupid, the companies are making stupid choices in turn. When the transition from NES to SNES happened, there weren't any games developed to work on both consoles. Same thing when moving from SNES to Playstation/N64. PS1/N64 to PS2/XB/GC saw the trend continue. Then all of a sudden game companies decided to release the same game on PS2/XB/GC that they were making for PS3/360/Wii. Now it's getting worse. The real problem causing this is gamers though. The Internet became more prevalent and gave every consumer the power to share their opinion, no matter how stupid it was, with the companies. Every time a console maker tries to innovate, gamers cry foul and want more of the same. And then the companies listen, give the gamers what they cried for, and then gamers cry that the aren't getting anything new. Gamers cried and cried during the disc-based era that they wanted backwards compatibility, so the companies determined that gamers didn't care about innovation. You can't, as a group, demand a company not innovate and then complain that they aren't improving on the previous iterations. These last 2 generations of games have produced some of the best games every made because the technology allows for more sophisticated systems. Unfortunately, these last 2 generations have also made some of the worst gamers because they refuse to grow to be more sophisticated along with the technology.
I still play my PS1, PS2, N64, and a bunch of older consoles and the games I play on newer generation consoles are rarely ever top of the line graphics so I don't care that much about them but blaming it fully on devs is funny.
