Raid Noobs...

So I really need to know if this community is starting to become a bunch of elitist shitholes, or I am talking to the wrong people. As a raid virgin, ABSOLUTELY no one wants to deal with trying to run a raid with me (even though I've seen them both done many times and will do whatever you tell me to, even if it's to jump off a ledge), and teach me the ropes. So my questions to you are , 1) would you work with a raid virgin/noob/any other fancy names you have for them? 2) if not, why the hell not? 3) how hard can it be to tell someone to do something, especially if they've seen it before? Comment below and help me understand the what the problem is. Edit1: I really appreciate all the support guys, it's refreshing to know that the community hasn't devolved and there are lots of great people around. I should have mentioned that I am on 360 (I know I wish I could upgrade), but either way I really appreciate everyone who wants to help. If you want to send a friend request my way then feel free, and again I thank you all for the support. Edit2: I'm amazed at how many good people are out there, and even if we are on different consoles I really appreciate that you took the time to say something. Maybe someone else will notice and you can help them! I've sent some friend requests to all those on the 360, but if I missed you then feel free to send me one. Thanks to all! Edit3: NO LONGER A (raid) VIRGIN!!! Thanks to help from you guys on the forum I was able to find a really good group of people and ran both VoG and CE! I appreciate all the help guys! Edit4: If you are a raid noob and need some help, post your level, class, and console! Maybe some one will help you through like they helped me! If you want to help out, post your info and someone can find you! Good luck guardians, and thanks for keeping Destiny great!

I've been around the forum for months now and have been helping people with raids on a weekly basis. But WOW! i never realised that people still act douchey towards new raider! I think this is where all the initial Raid experience/opinion of the player comes from, have a bad experience and the player will be put off but the activity and not want to come back. I was very fortunate to how found a couple of great raider back in november who help me and a friend through our first VoG ever. That's the experience that has stuck with me and i can.t raid enough, they weren't the kind of people to "do everything and move along" type but rather explained in detail every stage of the raid and we did it in 1hr40 min back then, some of the advice given to us then is still practiced today and works wonders. A couple of things i would advise you though (I don't know your age and i don't mean to offend anyone but that's how it is unfortunately) 1) AVOID the squeakers, my god they are annoying! Imagine yourself as the swordbearer on Crota HM and you have a high pitched voice piercing your ear drum tell you how many hits and how to swings that sword, lets not forget that i have around 50 completion, so i am full aware of how to run the sword, and he has about 3. All i ask is that if you are not swordbearing, be a quiet ledge monkey and listen to the swordbearer's request for rockets 2) Try and be part of the same fireteam that runs raids every week, my fireteam consist of 4 so every week we will either invite 2 other friend of we will find new/inexperienced players from the forum and help them through. An example was when we helped a partially deaf person through raids (VoG NM and HM, Crota NM and HM too). Like you she felt victimised because she had no experience, but then how could she have experience when everyone kept kickinig her out just because of a disability. Needless to say that her faith in humanity has been restored and we will keep helping her until she is fully happy with the raid.

  • I can fully understand why the elitists exist, they just want to get a raid done as quickly as possible with as little screw ups as possible so they want guys with 32 gear, a fully upgraded Gally etc. Don't worry though there are people out there who aren't complete tards when it comes to this. I myself got given the DLC just after Hard Mode dropped so I'd never done a Crota but thanks to OohAPieceOfCandy and Willis Gaming I got given the chance to scrub it up in a Normal Crota and learnt the ropes. Didn't want to risk hard mode until I got a Gally (RNGesus then blessed me with three in 8 days (two from engrams)) so started running that too. There are people out there willing to help even level 30's in a hard raid! You've just gotta sift through all the elitist morons to find them.

  • the community has had an extremely strong elitist presence since vog came out. 2 weeks after the raid came out there were posts demanding 30+ only with icebreaker/ghorn. half the time it was people level 27-29 posting that lol. thats never going away as there are too many 14-20 year old wannabe-badass pro gamer dickheads who play this game and "dnt hav tym 4 scrubz" obviously thats not the exclusive age range for dickheads but thats where most of them sit in my experience. if you be honest in the recruitment forum about your experience level itll take you longer to find a team, but the teams that are willing to take a dude who says he hasnt done a raid/hasnt done many are usually teams full of really chill dudes/dudettes who just wanna hang out and play.

    • I held a crota lesson last night, I managed to teach 4 new people how to run the sword effectively and about 10 new people just how to survive through out the raid, we were there for over 2 hours but it was good fun, in all honesty it was the most fun I have had on this game in a while, I recommend other people to do this, the happiness brought to others for killing Crota for the first time was a good feeling, if anyone wants to learn add me on ps4, user name is gamer tag

    • What I do is I will give them a quick explanation and then just let them try it while keeping an eye on them. It's easier to teach by watching the mistakes in action. You can explain it for 30 minutes, but it's pointless. Give them a brief how to and correct as you go.

    • I've only done the raids once each time with a bunch of great guys who didn't mind my extraordinary ability to die in ingenious and exceptional ways " that guy, you know the one, the new guy, he's running over a straight bridge isn't he ?" "Yep. What's he done now ?" "Err, he kinda fell off. He ran straight but then he kinda turned a corner and, well, he ran straight off". *sigh* I would run them again with anyone provided my ability wasn't a hindrance !

    • There are a lot of elitists on here. Everyone at some point had to learn the raid. I'd be happy to raid with you pal. As a matter of fact a buddy of mine will be getting PS4 and Destiny soon, so if that's your console, I'll be running him through the raids anyway.

      • raid beginners is a more appropriate word. I have no problem running with anybody experienced or not I'm just in this game for the fun. so if anybody would want to play with me just add me. I have done both raids.

Don't listen to the elitists man. They just have a sad life that they need to find solace and superiority in a video game. Congratulations on VoG. Just remember, EVERYONE was a raid noob at some point. Practice does make perfect after all! I wish you luck in future raids! (:

          • I'll help newbies if they're willing to listen. I'm no expert but I'll do what I can. However, I'll only do it if they're willing to listen. Die a thousand times, I don't care. No one is perfect. But if you just want to dick around and be carried then I'm out. This week I was trying to beat Atheon with this kid who kept trying to melee Atheon. At first he didn't know so while it was a dumb mistake (seriously, why would you melee a boss?!!) I understood so I told him that's a no-no. The kid understood but kept doing it and laughing about it when he died. He did it about 10 times. I really wanted to help those guys out, then being about 28-ish and me being a 31-32. But that kid made it impossible so I left. I checked the raid's stats a few hours later. They didn't finish the raid, obviously.

              • Pity you are not on PS3 as I would be happy to take you raiding. I have numerous friends that I helped out with their first raid. Congrats on finally completing a raid. Raiding is such great fun. Enjoying players getting great rewards, laughing over dumb mistakes (I have a friend who has banned himself from using a rocket launcher at templar), complaining to each other over game glitches etc. Good times.
