I'm sure you will need to use an item obtained from the PoE to upgrade to 34. We don't know for sure but I can't see it being done any differently. You aren't just going to be able to pop the game in the day the dlc drops and just become a 34

Agreed. The only other alternative that I could think they might be doing is the you need to level Reef Bounties to a specific reputation level to buy whatever upgrade materials are needed - not completely dissimilar from getting the Ruined Core or Embalming Orb from Eris. Would prefer it to be PoE based, though - personally.

Hopefully just one item. Probably 8000 platinum shards per upgrade. And 26,000 glimmer (impossible to do ;) )
