Do what I do. Keep gear on you to drop to level 27, then go in to matchmaking. I've found the lower levels try way more than the elitist douchbags anyway. Soon as I get paired up with the level 27-28's, I pop on my high level gear and go to town. Am I carrying them? Sometimes. Sometimes they do pretty dang well. This way I don't have to deal with stupid people doing what you explained, and I help some lower levels get their 9 coins. Win-win.
