Hi guys first time poster here. I had a question for everyone. So I was doing the whole Roc playlist thing with matchmaking and my 2 other team members dropped out. This has happened before and I usually end up getting joined by 2 more randoms at some point. But this time I didn't. Nada. This particular strike was the Dust Palace and it's probably one of the more challenging strikes for me. Probably because those Psion flayers are NEVER still! But I decided to grit my teeth and soldier through it the best I could, I don't like to quit.
What an exhausting experience!!! I felt like wave after wave of cabal were constantly spawning at me. It was all I could do just to fend them off let alone go after the flayers. But I did triumph in the end after over an hour of emptying clip after clip into those b@stards. So my question is: in strikes, do enemies continuously spawn every few minutes or so? Or is there some kind of limit on this? I was thinking the game wouldn't spawn as many seeing as how I was the only player, but it sure didn't seem like it.
I'm a level 27 Hunter btw. Working my butt off trying to eventually qualify for the raids, I've heard they're a blast.
UPDATE: Thanks everyone for the replies. I actually got an overwhelming supply of offers to show me the ropes when it comes to raiding, wow. You guys are all awesome!

Had this exact same scenario happen to me less than a week ago. At first I didn't think I could get through it alone, but by periodically retreating to the hallway where you enter the area, and YES, fending off wave after wave of cabal, managed to complete it. Don't think it took more than 20 to 30 minutes though. If you didn't use the same trick or are looking for a good tip to help solo this one, I definitely recommend using that hallway to catch your breath periodically, plus the cabal usually bunch up in the hall coming after you which makes me think that Hard Light might be a fun weapon to use there.

Get a full auto shotgun next time for flayers. You can get it from just completing bounties and leveling up a faction. You're a long way to being raid ready so just focus first on getting your light to 31 and try nightfalls. Good luck.
-
normal crota(carried but yeah),normal vog you could do both. if your on ps3 you can add me and ill carry you through crota. just include you added me for help in the friend request.
-
Can't speak to this strike as I'm on XB1, but I have heard that Bungie made a change to the Archon Priest door encounter, whereby if you hang too far back, waves will spawn continuously. Maybe this is something similar?
-
If you're on 360 I'll carry u through the raid, u can do it, me and my friends help 27's get the gear and guns, even if we've done it I'll still help ya, my gamer tag is Beyond Falcon
-
If your on later me and my buddy can run you through crota normal you'll most likely get some better gear out of it I'm in pst so I'll be on like 5 pst Add me if you want Day-tr1pper-27
-
I am a 32 on ps4 and you are definatley ready for vog normal and maybe crota normal. Add me my psn is rylest370 and then we can raid. Just watch a video of the raids before you do it because it is difficult to explain

I don't think the game changes for a certain number of players if you're running a strike or anything, but nice work sticking it out. I used to be abandoned all the time in high level strikes, but if you keep going and tough it out, it's really worth it in the end. If it ever happens to you again, try thinking of it as a training exercise and work on honing your skills, both in terms of accuracy and survival. You can never have too much practice, especially if you're preparing to jump into the raids. Be ready to hold way more than just your own.

use shotguns trust me those flayers won't stands a chance
-
You're ready for VoG on normal. I'm sure a bunch of people would love to help out, myself included if you're on 360
-
Use a shotgun on the Psions.

I find it odd that so many players hate this strike. With a good team you can finish it in 10 minutes. If solo maybe 15 to 20 minutes. I hate when players quit or just do nothing and get rewarded. I report them every time. If you load up a strike play the strike.
-
My first time was the nexus they left during the beginning of the boss fight then during the end of the fight two more people join and watch me from the cliff all for a blue engram
-
My first time doing omnigal I was left alone when we got to her. It took me forever but first finished it. Props for sticking with it. Some people are just lazy and won't do the harder strikes.
-
Edited by schoat333: 4/20/2015 4:32:21 PMA lot of people leave that strike because they think it is too hard. Props to you for sticking it out, even after people left.

If you are on ps4 you could join the clan I'm in. We have nothing against new players and like to help out. Pretty much none of uss had completed the raids utill the clan was formed so we know the struggle, but now we do them regularly. :)

No, almist every strike has a set number of adds in proportion to the bosses health, clear the adds, hurt the boss repeat, in the case of the flayers once the adds are gone your good until you kill a flayer, then more will spawn, if your alone, stay at the top, clear adds snd make sure their gone, kill a flayer, the reteat back to the top (actually works on every strike, just find a defensible position to return to)
-
I feel like this goes along with the post I just made about being stranded in a skirmish.

Edited by iWrkMayh3m: 4/20/2015 4:19:23 PMOnce upon a time....I completed a 1 versus six in Crucible. I couldn't bring myself to quit on my six opponents. But I was hoping that they would stop with the continuous rocket kills and give me a chance to get in possibly a couple kills.

Cool beans. Soloing a hard strike is always rewarding. It does happen from time to time with matchmaking. Get anything cool?
-
Great job holding on. Yes it does happen from time to time. The Flayers are one of the more difficult ones to finish solo. The Psion Flayers do not do well against shotguns. Having a Gjallahorn definitely helps. I would back out to cover when the adds spawned in, blast the adds with Gjallahorn, then go back and CQ engage the flayers with shotgun. As a hunter, make sure to use invisibity.

This is the kind of "christmas noob" i would bring to my raid. Good show
-
I was left to try and complete the Omnigul strike as a 24... Let's just say other people did join in and we still didn't beat it. 2 level above you hallowed knights just don't die.
-
I believe waves of enemies spawn at certain points in boss fights. At the beginning and at certain health thresholds. In the case of the flayers it might be after each one is killed and maybe when you get them to half health or something. I don't think it's random I'm pretty sure there's set waves

Was doing Valus ROC, a total of 9 people joined and left, it was easy.

Aight so first of all your doing exactly what you need to be doing to qualify for raids, grind for vanguard armor then grind for the materials to upgrade said vanguard armor. Takes allot of time and effort but the raids are so worth it. Keep it up man
