Let's go over what they've accomplished with attempting to "balance weapons" from start to finish

Week one. Crucible is pretty fine. Abundance of auto rifle users as every game has week 1 because automatic weapons are usually the most comfortable and forgiving for new players. A few weeks in people have earned some exotics and Suros is sold. Suros starts to dominate for those who bought it but many people are still low on coins so not everyone has it. It is also around this time maybe a little later that one lucky guy is the first to find a vex mythoclast in hard raid. He posts a vid in crucible of its original 2 shot kill OP greatness. No one is upset because "it's the hardest challenge in the game I can't even beat normal" in a couple weeks this isn't the same because Atheon can be pushed off the map and exploiters are using vex all over and making people rage quit. 1. Balance 1- from what I recall vex is nerfed a bit too far. People complain greatly if they owned it and cheer if not. Auto rifles are also very slightly nerfed so they aren't too affective range wise but they're still the favorite weapon to use. Pocket infinity is nerfed for no apparent reason whatsoever. No one complained it might have been slightly OP but they made it kinda shit after and took away the perk that made it... Well... Pocket infinity 2. Next major balance is before TDB comes out. Thorn is finally made good by increasing mag size, reload speed, etc. bad juju is made useable by increasing mag size, ensuring no reload occurs on the special perk and also adding increased super energy to the special perk. Red death is very slightly nerfed, a couple other weapons that needed buffs get a little buff like SGA and a couple things get slight nerfs. Suros gets another slight nerf and although it's still great in pvp it now is useless in PVE. I believe auto rifles may have had another very slight range decrease or damage drop off. Vex is buffed back up, not to its original power but it's great in PVE and PVP still. 3. The next major one nerfs the shit out of Suros and all autos making them shit in PVE and just barely okay in PVP. Shotguns get a major PVE buff but actually get a very slight PVP nerf however since fusions get nerfed to hell (including vex a little bit) with their cone spread, shotguns now seem like the only viable option and people act as if they somehow got buffed in pvp even though they did not. It has been apparent for a while that thorn is good now but this update makes it shine because Suros died as well as other autos. Pulse rifles get a well deserved buff but red death and a couple others are far too powerful in pvp and still aren't that great in PVE. Handcannons take a range and damage drop off nerf that greatly affects their PVE sniping capabilities. No one complained about this before (or any PVE weapons being OP) but they nerf it anyway to make grinds longer. 4. The recent ammo nerf. This basically was a special weapon nerf almost making fusion rifles seem more worthless now and a shadow of their former selves. Shotguns are still great but not enough ammo drops. Sniping seems more of a legit option than before but it's lost on us who hate sniping and camping. Basically aggressive playstyles are dead and campers win. crucible is now a cheap primary and sniping fest with constant cheap thorn users, and red death users. So recap on what they accomplished out of all this. Rather than giving us new viable options of weapons to use they simply force it. No longer can you play hyper aggressive or close range. They say "hey everyone's favorite weapons are auto rifles that must be a bad thing right?" Wrong. You just made me hate playing. They replace the primary giants Suros and Vex with the equally op, and perhaps less skill required, thorn and red death. I suck at crucible but I use thorn and always win. They force a more camping style of staying back and peaking out with a primary or a sniper and camping ammo spawns with these new timers all game. TL;DR buff auto rifles, slightly lower thorns DOT and then never, and I mean never, balance weapons again. You suck at it bungie and any future attempts will fail unless you completely separate PVP and PVE weapon changes

  • Honestly, otherwise than pocket infinity, I beleive they've been absolutely spot on so far. Before the first balance change, autorifles were just being used as people got used to the game, no, they were the only real answer, they were better than scout rifles at long range, especially Suros. And the vex was just OP. The first balance change brought things a lot closer together, auto rifles were still a bit on the more powerful side, but in crucible, you could see scouts and handcannons start shining. Vex was made so it was balanced in PVP but they killed it for PVE, and pulse rifles still sucked. Then the exotic update brought some much needed changes to a lot of exotics, though thorn was buffed just a little too much. The last update made pulse rifles what they should be, a viable option, and autofifles were brought to about exactly where they should be. Now there are just a few outstanding weapons that overperform, mostly TLW and Thorn. Red Death can be a beast, but at the same time, if you so much as not get one bullet in the head, its usefulness falls off greatly. I play all three classes, and each class uses different weapons. My titan uses Autorifles, and the only sort that aren't that useful are the ones with maxed fire rate and low stabilty, I still use suros, and I still generally get a positive K/D in crucible and have no problem with them what so ever in pve. Heck I recently got a Payback SOS and took that into crucible, mind you, it has three things on it that upgrade stability, but still, I managed a positive K/d. I compare crucible now to day one, and its overall a lot more fun, now they just have to the couple weapons that are beasts and it'll be great.... oh, and add some more game types like CTF, why the hell doesn't this game have any true objective game types?
