Before I get a bunch of op is fgt let me explain something. I use thorn a good bit and I realize it's weakness and strong points. The only thing that I think thorn should be nerfed on is fire rate. This would make thorn definitely still a threat but just a little more time between each shot would allow for some countering.
I know that a gun like this does take skill believe me but the time to kill on thorn is faster than most guns.
Edit:I would like to thank the people who were nice and agreed with me or didn't. I just wanted people's opinion on my idea and I got mixed reviews about it,but I stand by it please debate further and I will too.
Everyone who says that I need to get better or change my style just know I came to this conclusion by using thorn weeks on end and I think it's a valid nerf

12 RepliesIt's funny that everyone hates the thorn....I don't own one....it takes the other person a lot of trying to kill me with it....out of all the times I've been hit with thorn (which is a lot) I can count on one hand the amount of times I've died by thorn!

3 RepliesOP is OP, should be nerfed.

1 ReplyBeen saying this. It's the next logical nerf. I hope it doesn't happen but I know it will

19 RepliesEdited by GrimO_ORabbit: 4/20/2015 10:51:35 PMPeople like you destroy destiny, no offense it's just, getting the gun is an annoying grind but to acquire it, just for it to be constantly weakened, to suit it's victims tastes is.....horrific... and saddening ︶︿︶

3 RepliesThe last word is a lot faster in time to kill and thorn bounty is a pain in the ass especially now with special weapon ammo NERF and there are lots if people who don't have void primary's such as the word of Crota for example then there is a vex one but forget the name, anyways m point is that the thorn is as good as it needs to be the last word is tied with thorn because of faster kill rate but the thorn can handle more players with the damage over time ability, no nerfs are needed thorn is just a very efficient gun

1 ReplyThorn is OP or PO is nrohT? Makes you think

Pre-post *The Hawkmoon is actually way more balanced than TLW/Thorn. Its stability isn't great, and its TTKC isn't completely outrageous when compared to other guns. *I am an avid user of both guns. I want them balanced because I dislike being forced to use them in order to counter them (why I use them). *No, I don't think other guns should be buffed to match these (if you were going to propose this, that just proves how out of line these guns are) because that would be 20x harder than simply balancing these 2 weapons. (TTK = time to kill) (TTKC = time to kill crit) (ADS = aim down sights) TLW TTKC: .56 Thorn TTKC: .36 (this is how long it takes to land two head shots. The number .36 does not account for the burn damage after the two head shots are landed.) Spread sheet First of all, if you're one of the few people that are actually willing to take this thread seriously, take a look at that spread sheet and pay attention to the "Time To Kill Crit" column. The hand cannon class, specifically exotic hand cannons, are vastly superior to literally every other weapon except for Red Death and Vex Mythoclast. They're two tenths of a second better than every other primary, and one tenth of a second better than the Mytho & Red Death. This means that if two players, one with TLW and one with RD, are fighting head to head, and both players are using the guns to their full potential, TLW will win 100% of the time. And no, saying "well stay out of close range to avoid TLW" isn't a valid option because of the current maps. The Last Word (TLW) I'll start with TLW. First of all, TLW's exotic perk is broken. It's supposed to deal bonus damage when hip fired, right? Well, currently it's bugged and exploitable. Ever notice how sometimes you'll ADS with it and gain bonus damage? That's the bugged part. Sometimes it randomly decides to give you extra damage. However there's currently an exploit (or bug or whatever you want to call it. Idc about the technicality) that allows you to gain the bonus damage while ADS'd 100% of the time. And it's really easy! All you have to do is press the right trigger before you press the left trigger. Keep both pressed down and bam. 111 head shots for days (I don't mind giving this info out because the more people that do it/know it, the faster it gets patched!). This means that even at medium range TLW can achieve its .56 TTKC fairly consistently. This is specially broken for skirmish where TLW shines, even without abusing its broken perk. Fix: The perk should obviously be fixed. I think we can all agree on that, even if you don't think exotic HCs are OP. The RoF also need to be lowered. I'm not sure how much it needs lowering, but I'll throw out a number and say 2%, giving other weapons a chance against this silly weapon. Thorn Thorn's TTK is a bit confusing. The chart says .36, but that isn't its true TTK if we're being technical. That time (.36) is how fast you can land two head shots, which with the Thorn's stability, isn't too hard for competent players. Of course the enemy isn't immediately dead after two head shots, they still have to burn (so they're basically zombies after two head shots). I accept the number .36 as Thorn's true TTKC because most players blink away to cover after doming someone twice. .36 is MILES above ALL other weapons. That number is better than most LMGs! And the "stay out of close quarters" is an even less valid solution to countering this gun because of its range. Fix: Remove the perfect balance perk from Thorn's tree and reduce its RoF by around 5%. TL;DR: No. Read the post. I'll be ignoring "git gud" type posts unless I need bumps.
6 RepliesIf every high level gets the chance to get the gun then its not OP. There is no reason 80% of crucible couldn't have thorn. The problem with suros was only a select few had it which made it OP.

11 RepliesMr. Traitor FEAR, what you have just typed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

2 RepliesEdited by deathblow1030: 4/20/2015 10:21:59 PMHere's my question though, you're not happy that it's OP in PvP, what about PvE? Too much power as well? Furthermore, why not change your playing style and camp? The majority of hand cannon players that I've played against always rush. Once I get the feel of the game play I adjust to camping around corners. Then the inevitable spamming of hate mails pour in. It's simple really, if I want to help my team and give us an edge I'm going to take out these hand cannon users to benefit our game. I know how fast they can wreak players but they have to reach me and find me 1st. It's a game, there's no wrong or right way to play. Just enjoy it

I'm an avid thorn user but 90% of my time on destiny is pve played PvP this morning though had a blast on my red headed step child of a warlock which I neglect for my favorite child my hunter but I did rather well once I got on track and in my last matches I was paired again several thorn users and using the thorn so much allowed my to easily out do them its not the hard to counter keep moving in gun on gun you can't really win its more likely to have a higher dps with burn and fire rate get a gun (preferably something fast firing and no a hand cannon so you have an even higher fire rate use your nades your movement and the enenviroment to make them pay attention to something besides you and you can move them how you wish and you'll have a greater chance to out play them. The nades orent for more damage with this strat they are for throwing your opponent off their game and pattern

3 RepliesTLW TEARS THORN APART. I literally can kill somebody in like 1.5 or 1.0 second, now thats OP!!!
-
1 ReplyTo be honest, I don't use thorn because it feels a bit cheap to me. That being said I'm ok with using red death and felwinters so... Idk I probably don't have a great sense of what is and isn't cheap. The aim assist (even when "off") feels pretty strong on thorn, and I think that's what bothers me.
-
4 RepliesI agree it is... but its not unstoppable. If you play smarter you wont have a problem. It doesn't need to be nerfed at all. And for the record I do not have it. But I do want it badly.
-
I do agree with the rate of fire being a little to fast. The problem with thorn is there is a trend where people are hiding and shooting more then engaging in battles so thorn works very well in this scenario. 9x out of 10 my Hawkmoon puts out more DPS though.
-
Agreed. I'm Xbox one so I don't know about the hawk but exotic hand cannons in PvP are without a doubt OP. Bungie tried to make hand cannons decent at any range, ARs only good at close range, but when you have TLW lurking around the corner no matter what primary you have you're dead.

1 ReplyJeez there's a lot of buttmad thorn users

I always get less kills with Thorn but way more assists. I think it's the best passive-aggressive gun in the game but it's not OP because different maps play well with different playstyles.
