When you do VOG and kill Atheon, was it randomly picked and preset in the servers when you started the raid as to what you're going to get dropped for loot if you make it that far? Or is it something like the millisecond after you kill a boss it scrolls throguh a bunch of items in the server and selects a random one? Just trying to better understand the science of it. Like a slot machine you put a coin in and it randomly spins and stops at whatever their presets are, I get the science behind that.

Edited by AndroidOrb424: 4/18/2015 5:27:34 AMTheir is a formula and it takes a number presumably the date and time and runs it through and their are probably a series of answers these answers are your loot Ps that means that if you are extremely u lucky you can never get a certain weapon ever in theory but for crotas end they fixed that

It's lik a slot machine...if they let us know then we could force a payout.

Much of the exact workings of an RNG loot game, are unknown. This is true with Destiny. In basics, like others have mentioned here, at some point a random number is generated, and compared to a table of possible loot for an encounter. That cross reference, gives you your reward. To address the specific question you asked - is the loot generated when you enter an activity, or when you kill a boss? The likely answer, is when you kill the boss. Otherwise, the game would have to pre-generate loot for all possible enemies, and store that in memory somewhere until you win or give up, which is resource intensive. The only answer I can give for sure, though, is it could be either one. Sure, it could roll when you enter an activity. The big point here - it doesn't matter. Even if it rolled when you entered the activity, there is no way to tell what you would get, until you get it. There would be no way to keep loading a zone, say, until it rolls up what you want, because you don't know what it rolls each time you enter, under that hypothetical model. It's random, because the results are unpredictable!

1 ReplyAt first I want to say that I might be wrong with everything I know. But I still want to share my knowledge. So, as far as my understanding goes of Destiny's RNG-System, it works similar to a slot machine. Basically like you already think. Many spots have preset rewards, or they draw their loot from a specific loot pool. For example, reward packages from Dead Orbit only give this set rewards: -Dead Orbit shaders -Dead Orbit ship -Dead Orbit gear (armor and weapons) -Dead Orbit emblems -Crucible Commendation Whenever you accept a package from Dead Orbit, the RNG-System "rolls" you random rewards out of this set. You cannot get any other rewards from Dead Orbit packages. Some rewards have higher chances to be rolled than others though. In my experience, this system exists through the whole game. On some points, it doesn't appear like RNG due to only a few items that can be dropped at that spot. Crota's End, for example. If you play on normal, the only items that can be dropped when you complete the Abyss are Radiant Shards, Radiant Energies, and Raid Gauntlets. Since the chances for Radiant Materials are way higher, most people think it is not RNG: But it is. I think that is all behind the RNG-System.

17 RepliesAfter you reach a checkpoint, open a chest, defeat a boss, etc the system rolls a virtual die and a random number is generated. This number coincides with a particular item in the game inventory and this is what you recieve. RNG = Random Number Generator Nothing is preset ahead of time.

I doubt you'll get an explanation… let's wait and see.
