What would you think of having a merc rep? It would act much like vanguard rep, but with constant effects instead of random postmaster drops.
All of these would only be active when mercing a nightfall.
Rank 1) build glimmer for kills as if using ether seeds, black wax, ect. These items would not stack effects.
Rank 2) 2 rare engram's will drop as a completion reward.
Rank 3) a very small chance for legendaries added to the loot table.
Rank 4) slightly increased odds of legendary drop
Rank 5) further increase of legendary drop, and very small chance of exotic drop added to the loot table.
After reaching rank 5 the rep bonus becomes vanguard rep bonus.
This would also help to curb trolling, and possibly be used to allow the "employer" to see how seasoned a merc is.

That sounds totally cool. I was actually thinking of something along those lines but wrote my post with just a bare minimum of new stuff being implemented. I was talking to someone else about there being a set of weapons and armor and some cool shaders and other stuff at higher levels of merc rep. You could totally go overboard and make it into something a million times cooler than what I wrote but I was trying to kind of keep it short and simple for sake of plausibility and people actually reading it. I might consider making a better version though because some people have some very very cool ideas that they have been throwing at me like this rep idea you brought up :) Your last sentence about being able to see how seasoned a merc is is an aspect I hadn't really thought about. That would be a really cool thing to implement either with or without the whole merc rep idea. Thanks for sharing
