Does every guardian have a different loot table?
What I mean is, it seems like every player has a different loot table for things like exotics, raid gear, and even IB gear dropping. Within these specialized loot tables, each of these items has a different weight. For example: every player has seen NLB to the point of trolling, yet I've never found one, and I've played since January (and I do have the DLC). Not to mention the odd drop rates of exotics (dropping all the time for some, but not for others; see: Gjallarhorn exclusion principle). If anyone has anything to add, I'd love to hear it.

Bumping this old thread cause I'm curious if your attainable loot is tied to your IP address and not your character. Maybe some kind of algorithm pre determines what your getting before you get it For example It'll determine after X amount of pvp matches you'll get an exotic but where the x amount is predetermined and impossible to figure out

We have had one purple dropped each, both during an Earth Patrol, until reading this thread i didn't even know exotics got dropped, i just bought my first this weekend!. I have been sweating ROC missions recently and have been getting plenty of blues but no purples at all, i must have decrypted over 100 engrams on saturday with just a couple of coins/Motes and the rest were Blue guns and armour. I am a level 28 Titan and my son is a 26 Hunter, we have 5 purple guns between us and 3 purple/1 yellow armour - again between us.

22 RepliesA little while back someone posted a pretty logical theory. It had something to do with what time you normally play Destiny. I dont know a lot about programming but i do know that it is very difficult to create TRUE randomness in a program. So if my understanding is correct they use a seed method when you log into destiny. Once you get on the seed is generated and your loot stems from there over time. I assume the seed is plugged into some algorythem or equation that determines your drops. Therefore logging in at the same time daily will result in the same seed which leads to the same loot. This is how i understood how he had explained it. I'm not sure if this interpretation is correct or makes sense <.< srry i cant give more concreate info

4 RepliesIt is as random as a human created system can be. Without going into mind numbingly boring numbers loot is generated in tables. Most RNG systems are similar in this aspect. Each guardian is assigned a number (code). Each code is linked to a specific random table. So yes each guardian has its own unique randomly generated table of weighted loot linked to their code. It is the only way to create a "random" system.

I get the exact same loot drops in every location even crucible so....

The engine obviously creates favorites I don't know if it's a coded thing that's meant to be or like a learned thing that the engine figured makes the game run more smooth

No, everyone has the same. The sample-set is way, way too small to expect a flat distribution. Only if you had a few thousand exotics, would that be what you'd be expecting to see.

That seems far fetched. Why would Bungie go through the effort to do something like that? Does any other game do that?

Edited by smashbad: 4/19/2015 10:38:47 AMI don't feel like putting a lot of effort into this post at the moment but from my experience with the game, I believe every person (and character within that account) has their own unique loot table. It's still RNG, but all the different possibilities within the game are weighted differently for each character. For example, we each have a bag of 1,000 marbles representing all the items in the game. My bag has 10 Hawkmoon marbles and yours has 5. Marbles are chosen at random, but it's a weighted random. It is unbelievable how much armor my warlock gets that has just strength on it. I can say with 100% certainty my warlock has never gotten any raid armor drop with just discipline. I'm also not sure I have ever gotten armor for my titan with any strength on it at all. I rarely play with my hunter in comparison to my other characters but my hunter's luck with exotic drops is so good. That's the only reason I keep him around. This may just be speculation but I do believe my first point could have some validity, without any proof to back it up. Also, I'm not bitter toward this game for any RNG-related reason. I have aquired a lot of loot in my time playing.

My rng weight goes in phases. Heavy machine guns for a while then scouts for a while, pulse rifles, hand cannons. Exotics lately.

Yep. It's all RNG but it's randomly weighted for everyone.

Could be true. I started playing the game from day 1, probably about 2 weeks into the game I got my first exotic; Plan C. up till 3 months after that I've gotten about 25ish Plan C's in a row. Literally no other exotic would drop for me. I don't have that problem anymore, but I can understand if there's a different loot table for everyone.
