Toland's Journal is a step in the Bad JuJu exotic bounty. Your completion of the step just happened to coincide with your completion of the Nightfall. It was not a nightfall reward.

You are correct. I spoke with my friend who ran the nightfall with me and it turns out he has MULTIPLE Bad JuJu quest and what we saw in the text feed was his updating for completing the nightfall like Anidien had suggested. I never had Toland's Journal assigned to me. Thank you Anidien and Mecha Cam for your help.
