There is lot of debate as to what rocket launchers are good or bad in Destiny. Well, today I decided to do some thorough testing on them instead and finally find out which ones are good and which ones are bad.
Firstly, all rocket launchers I used for testing had all perks and were maxed to 300 or higher.
Secondly, All testing was done on Hard mode Atheon. Badass launchers, badass test subject.
Lastly, maxing your launchers blast radius does NOT improve launcher damage output.
ok, lets go.
ADMONISHER III(New Monarchy faction launcher)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Rockets per mag without mods - 1
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 7
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 25,606
Overview - Low mag count means your DPS plummits and you are constantly reloading this launcher. I cannot recommend it without Tripod or Field Scout. Without those perks this launcher is obsolete.
THE CURE (FWC faction launcher)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Rockets per mag without mods - 1
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 7
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 25,606
Overview - Again, one round mag means you constantly reloading and you DPS is lower than it should be. Not recommended without Field Scout or Tripod.
EXODUS PLAN (Dead Orbit faction launcher)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Rockets per mag without mods - 2
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 6
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 21,948
Overview - Good launcher held back by a low total reserve and reserve damage. With this Launcher having a very high fire rate, standard two round mag and abnormally high DPS its hard not to recommend it but I actually cant without it having either Tripod or Field Scout. With those perks however this launcher not only becomes absolutely devastating but also the best possible tracking legendary launcher alternative to an exotic launcher. Problem is finding one with those perks...
VALEDICTORIAN 9-44 (Crucible Launcher)TESTED FOR MULTIPLE REQUESTS
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Rockets per mag without mods - 2
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 6
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 21,948
Overview - I bought the Quarter Master version of this weapon. First off, hate to say it -6 round reserve is bad- and because of this the weapon has a very low total reserve damage. However, if you bought the Quarter Master version it came with the very amazing perk *Clown Cartridge*. Now let me explain why Clown Cartridge is so good. Not only does it buff your mag size to maximize DPS(less reloading) but the best part is that any bonus rockets acquired from Clown Cartridge come from air! They don't come from your reserve, no, they are basically free rockets that you never had to pick up! Now that alone and the fact that this launcher does indeed fire faster than the Exodus Plan means that it is, infact the highest DPS tracking launcher possible with either Field Scout or Tripod!
RADEGHASTS FURY (Iron Banner launcher)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Rockets per mag without mods - 1
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 7
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 25,606
Overview - Fantastic launcher! With this launcher's ability to be rerolled to whatever desired perk it is a phenomenal legendary alternative launcher. Its only Achilles heel is its fire rate. This weapon has an abnormally slow fire rate when two or more rockets or in one mag and because of this its DPS suffers.
HUNGER OF CROTA (Crotas End raid launcher)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Cluster Bomb damage - 10 chances or dealing 75. However this is unreliable. Most Clusters do not detonate on initial target.
Rockets per mag - 2
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 6
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 21,948 with possible but not likely bonus damage on initial target
Overview - However hyped the HoC may be further testing indicates that it is nowhere near what it was hyped up to be! With a very low overall reserve damage holding the HoC back its really actually not worth any ones time unless you have no other tracking launcher for Crota... All things considered this is actually one of the weakest launchers in the entirety of Destiny! Thanks to V6fire for making me go back and confirm this!
HEZEN VENGEANCE (Vault Of Glass raid launcher)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Mirv Mini damage - 10 chances of 75. Reliable. Unlike Cluster Bombs, Mirvs detonate immediately and most hit initial target.
Usual combined damage per rocket - 4,150(give or take)
Rockets per mag - 3!
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 8!
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 33,200
Overview - I was surprised by this launcher. Not only does it have an 8 round reserve and a 3 round standard mag but an incredibly high and reliable damage per rocket! But its most impressive feat is by far its insanely high total reserve damage, it is through the roof!!!
This is by far the highest and hardest hitting legendary launcher in Destiny! If you can get past the no tracking, that is.
NOTE: this launcher is frozen at 300 damage and will not cause its extremely high DPS on anything above lvl 30, sadly.
TRUTH (Exotic launcher)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 with a total of 3658 per missile
Rockets per mag - 3(secret Tripod perk)
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 8!
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 29,264
Overview - With its aggressive tracking and Grenades and Horseshoes perk this launcher has become terrifying in the Crucible. But further testing also indicates it is above all legendaries in PvE aswell. With a massive total reserve damage and 3 round magazine the Truth is probably the most versatile launcher. It can kill anything from guardians to Valus's fat face with almost no effort at all.
GJALLARHORN (The name speaks for itself)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with no found direct after damage
Cluster Missile damage - 10 almost indefinite chances of 255
Rocket and Cluster missile combined damage - 5299!!!
Rockets per mag - 2
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 7
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 37,093
Overview - This weapon is known for sending almost everything to the grave almost instantly. It also has its hidden perk, Grenades and Horseshoes which makes hitting things that much easier. Its DPS output is terrifying and its easy to use.
not really much else to say.
DRAGONS BREATH(Burn the world, burn it all)
Damage - initial burst of 2749 with direct after damage of 909 and a bonus 408 out of nowhere with a total of 4066!
Pyromancer damage - Solar Flare does 5 102's every second for 4 seconds equaling to 2040 bonus damage if enemy is trapped
Initial damage plus full bonus Solar Flare damage - 6,106!!!!! (HOLY SHIT!)
Rockets per mag - 3
Rockets in reserve with heavy ammo perk - 7
Total reserve damage(all rockets fired) - 42,742!!!!
Overview - Yes, those are real numbers. Yes, I tested the Gally and Dragons Breath so much it hurts to think about it and yes, the Dragons Breath blows the Gally out of the water!!!! These are real numbers and you can test it and do the math yourself.
The Dragons Breath's DPS is horrifying! And now it has been proven.
Edit 1: wow so many replies! I use Gjallarhorn btw this is just to show how op Dragons Breath can be not how op it is.
Edit 2: I will be adding One Way Ticket 000 as requested

3 RepliesGod you people are stupid like I can't How about dragons breath slow velocity How about its drastically slow reload How about its non tracking How about its useless perk to create a solar grenade that everything in the game walks out of , dragons breath is garbage compared to Gjallarhorn and anyone who says otherwise is salty they don't have one
-
Helmet 14 blind enemy let them walk in to 3 solar flares DB has its uses at times !
-
7 RepliesAnybody who says Dragon's Breath is superior is someone that doesn't have a Gjallarhorn, or someone that has shit rockets.
-
Solar grenades should be like singularity grenades in borderlands. That or make them all drop and stay still like they would a fusion grenade.
-
4 RepliesPlease reply so I can find this later.
-
4 RepliesDragons breath could really be awesome but the AI is designed to move away from what is damaging it. Unless you have an enemy like ir yut during lithergy you will not be doing that much damage, and I hope you're good at aiming at the ground bc I feel 6/10 people would miss hitting the target without tracking. Again, love dragon breaths concept, but not useable in most situations
-
Edited by Blackhammer193: 4/12/2015 6:19:04 PMFails to mention that dragons breath, has no tracking, no proximity, horrid velocity, and that solar flare is extremely situational... You can't judge everything strictly by numbers...
-
No tracking and if you are smart, you avoid he huge flare
-
You can take 2 steps to the left and dodge the rocket as well as its solar flare. If someone like me can do that, what do you think enemies will do?
-
1 ReplyTrue, if the enemies in this game stayed in yhe solar flare.... (Which they dont)
-
2 RepliesHe never even tested the hive disruptor perk on HOC, giving people the wrong impression, I'm sure HOC would make it maybe 2nd best launcher for crota or hive? And I've never seen an enemy stay in the solar flare!
-
All of you Gjallarhorn fan boys forget that Gjallarhorn fails to impress outside of 1:1 rocket to enemy ratio. It's impact is average, with wolf pack rounds being the kicker. They scatter to any nearby enemies, not just their target. Dragon's Breath deals more.
-
Muted for stealing this from another person fag.
-
Pointless post. Doesn't matter what the potential damage is when enemies run immediately from the solar flare. In actual use, Gally has higher guaranteed damage.
-
2 RepliesReply to this please. I want to keep this
-
Hahaha I peed myself laughing after I read the title. On paper, Dragon's Breath may look like the best weapon. In actual combat, it is nowhere near as good as Gjallarhorn, period.
-
6 RepliesHut what if you miss with dragons breath due to the BAD velocity
-
Enemies move away from solar flare...so db never does full damage. Any decent player knows that gjallarhorn rules the roost
-
Edited by Raider TCK: 4/12/2015 5:49:46 PMThere is a reason warlocks don't use vortex or solar grenades. They are REALLY situational. What is even less situational is wanting to put an AOE grenade right where a rocket has just hit. Only 2 enemies in the game won't move away from an AOE grenade. Shriekers and a devil walker. Ir yut won't once she starts singing. Both of which you are better off using different weapons.
-
6 RepliesEverything goes away from the solar flare though...

Edited by BloodyAlien243: 4/12/2015 5:45:45 PM>Implying enemy's stay in the flare That's the only thing that makes DB good. Gjallarhorn is better because it's assured that the wolf pack rounds hit the target.
-
Gally is much better by far

-
You could unload monster damage into phogoth before he stands up, deathsinger, atheon in times vengeance

equalling 2040 if the enemy is trapped
If… If… If… If… If… If… If… If… If… If… If… If… If… If............... Not going to happen since the Enemies are programmed to walk out of it. I use Dragons Breath for the hell of it but I'm not gonna say it's better than the Gjallarhorn…
