Hand cannons are over powered!
Good competitive games have one quality developers strive for-- balance!
When updates are added they are placed to try and create more balance. However, sometimes when you attempt to balance one aspect another becomes grossly unbalanced. It's a catch 22 but bungie always takes the challenge to rebalance the game! Hats off to you bungie!!!
I would like to create this thread so those who agree with the idea that the thorn needs to be rebalanced can come together and have a voice. I know many people complain "nerf threads" are a nuisance but I would argue rebalancing threads are a necessity for destiny's long term survival!
Now to talk about the thorn....
The biggest problem is the bleed damage working for 2-3 seconds keeping your shields down for too long. The thorn is basically a sniper designed to suppress your shields while the plethora of short range maps makes this a serious problem because you can be rushed too easily before shields recharge. It is way to over powered!
To fix this problem just make the bleed damage effect activate at a random set-% instead of making it work 100% of the time or turn down the time you bleed when activated. Easy fix.
Now let's discuss this idea and stay on track.

Level means [b]nothing[/b] in normal pvp and is not worth the grind for those with a career or a family they spend time with or any other hobby [b]BESIDES[/b] videogames! Seriously the level argument has no weight what so ever!!

Anyways, most destiny players have other hobbies, so don't be so quick to judge. On to the point. The thorn. This weapon is an exotic, and in my opinion it is one of the few exotics that is truly "exotic". Not just a trophy. But here's the thing. Have you ever used the thorn? It takes some getting used to for sure. I'm sure when you pick it up if you don't have it already you won't be too fond of it. Especially before the exotic upgrade. Let's face it: without damage over time, the thorn would be worse than most legendary, and even rare hand cannons (in the crucible). I have a titan mark I think, and the description reads "The mighty Thalor was invincible in the Crucible - until Dredgen Yor, and his Thorn" This shows that bungie has clearly paved the walkway for the Thorn to become one of the deadliest weapons in the crucible. This does not mean that there are no ways to beat it, however. If you want my advice, the counter to thorn would be the red death (exotic pulse rifle) because you automatically regenerate health for every kill, so he won't get you with that burn for the post-mortem kill. P.S. the bungie community is one of the best. The problem here is you. Acting derogatory towards the players and community, and adding on to the million complaints players have because they have not found a way to overcome a simple issue.

1 ReplyThe Last Word is balanced. It's rate of fire is countered by its small mag. It's great stability is countered by the fact that the damage dropoff happens almost immediately. Thorn is fine in my opinion. Probably because I don't die by it often. Because, you know, I have the skill to beat a Thorn user in a gunfight. But if they want to reduce the burn so that Thorn can't kill in two shots, I'd be ok with it. Just don't change so much that nobody wants to use it like what happened to SUROS regime.

1 ReplyPlease specify that you mean PvP only. If you work that hard to get a gun it should be awesome, and in PvE who cares if it is OP. Only request a DOT reduction vs guardians. Leave it alone vs minions of darkness. Balance and equality is good in PvP. Being over the top awesome is good in PvE.

You've opened up the topic for constructive discussion so allow me to weigh in. Hand canons in general are perfectly balanced. Exotic hand canons are exceptional versions. There are tiers of weapons and those worthy of the exotic title are (and should be) better. Thorn has range and DoT but also very low initial damage. I have a rare hand canon that is level 14 and yet hits 95 on headshots whereas Thorn hits for 87. The last word has its hip fire perk, Red Death can kill in two bursts and resets your health. Hawkmoon has a massive magazine every bit of range that thorn has and has three rounds per mag that do significant bonus damage. All that to say you are incorrect in your assessment of the balance. The reality, and the reason you keep getting so much hate, is that you have not played nearly long enough to have any real experience or to be an authority on the subject. To every gamer hearing you that's like joining a basketball team and after your very first game trying to tell the NBA how things should be done. You're right, level doesn't mean much, but time spent does. Time equals experience and gives those with more experience credibility. I'm not hating on you right now, I am just helping you understand how your post comes across to the entire community and how the logic plays out.

I understand your point but, the community is still sour because last time ppl cried out that suros was overpowered and bungie tried to remedy the situation. Then bam autorifles as a whole are now useless, so I'd rather see bungie not try to fix anything else and just let it be. Because it was quite tough on me when I had to move my suros into the vault where it sits idle gathering dust.
