Why base a players skill off of Grimoire?

Just curious. My score is pretty low, but I'm not a terrible player. I do hold my own in raids and PVE events. So I'm just wondering why some people base skill off of a score? Edit 1: Thank you for all your input everyone! Please keep it coming I love hearing opinions from anyone who has one. I will try to reply to every post but if I miss one it is because I just accidentally missed it! I apologize in advance. Edit 2: Awesome Input everyone! Thank you for providing feedback to my question I really appreciate it! As I said before if I do not reply back right away it is either because I missed your post or I am busy with something else and don't have time to reply. But I will try to get to every post! Thanks everyone.

  • Higher Grimoire means more experience playing the game, in general. Those people who say "lol you can just hunt ghosts": No, if someone has 2500+ grimoire then it took more than hunting ghosts to get there. Also, most people don't hunt for ghosts until they already have a decent score.

    • Lol it's just a sign of dedication to the game.i saw one guy ask "am I noob?i have two 30+ characters" and lots of people said "no,you have a laughable grimior score" lol

    • It's obvious Only the most skilled players can get carried through raids Only the most skilled players can YouTube ghost locations to increase their grimoire score And by this point we all know that rng is tied directly to ones skill level, the better you are the more appropo you are to get an exotic which will also increase your grimoire score

    • In my opinion:- High Grimoire score = dedication and experience. Raid completions + Raid/Strike KDRs = PvE skill Medal score + Crucible KDR = PvP skill

    • I don't. If you're good, then you're good. Not my place to judge, and it shouldn't be anyone else's... If someone wants help with someone, or wants to raise their grimoire for their own personal reasons, I'll help... (especially if they're noobs. There's a satisfaction in teaching someone something)

    • Not skill. Experience. And experience tells a player that you can sneak up on hobgoblins during "mars" teleport. Or that everyone should exit the same time so no one behind gets hit by boomers. It's the little things.

      • Grimoire = more game time = less likely to be a scrub due to experience.

      • It's linked to experience, skill and time played. You don't get certain grimoire cards till you've killed enough of a certain enemy type, so it helps to have played a long time. People still look at my profile and say, you've only got one Titan Christmas noob. Fact is, I've been playing since the alpha and have deleted many a character with the intention of never playing destiny again due to repetition. I keep coming back and I keep making new characters. Don't listen to people who base your level of skill in a game to a score card system or if you have a certain weapon. It's ludicrous and idiotic since its chance based and not earned.

          • The kind of people who value Grimoire score are the same people who go around thinking they are special because there parents told them so. They are also the same people who feel they are better than other players only because they got lucky with RNG and got an item other people got from Xur. To many kids on here even in there 20's with self esteem issues, looking for any reason to make themselves feel more important and better than others.

              • I use it to get a grasp on the how much the player has experienced Destiny. Someone with a high Grimoire is more likely to be a good player than someone with a much lower score. It's not definitive, obviously, but it gives some clues. I do have friends with low scores, but they are quite skilled.

                • It's an rpg (mostly) thing. It used to (still is I suppose) bragging rights to have proof of high completion in an rpg, it meant you could decipher clues and new secrets. Though with the age of online strategy guides and cheat sites this seems a very vacuous endeavor. Just like FPS players brag about kdr, rpg players brag about the most secrets obtained.

                • Because people still think that when you played long enuff to unlock more grimoire score that your good.

Grimoire isn't necessarily skill. The higher grimoire you have then the more you play (or played). When you play more you know more things, you can get better and you are used to the game more. Since yesterday there were 294 players (both consoles) with the max grimoire for their console. That shows 294 have the dedication to grind the game. Although 1000 others are probably close, they didn't get were the max was. Low grimoire scores like the 1900-2200 generally mean you don't play enough and have as much knowledge. The more you play the better you get. (This is coming from a person with max Xbox grimoire in a group with 160+ people with max too. The group is called Grandmasters of Grimoire). Short answer: grimoire isn't skill Long answer: grimoire is the amount of time and dedication you have for a game. More time will also make you a better player.

                  • Not good to base skill off but it shows someone is a more dedicated completionist I guess, still doesn't mean they are good.

                      • People who base skills off stats are tools.. low KDR.. people can run around and pad their numbers.. Some people wipe trying to explore or glitch off the maps..

                            • Practise makes perfect. The more you do something the better you'll be. The people with 2700+ grimoire have had a lot more practise than those with <2100 I never base skill off grimoire but I do give more credit to those with a higher grimoire as I know they at least have experience.
