The lifetime of an AI is se7en years, Cortana is about 3 years old but her lifetime was supposedly shortend because she coppied the halo data to her system. [Edited on 2/16/2005 10:40:38 AM]

stop asuming you are always right and that you are the ultimate halo fan. just because cortana and gravemind are going to talk does not make cortana a traitor. did u ever consider that cortana actually might be able to negotiate with the flood? cortana was ready to die to detonate the reacters y would she be scared of gravemind? what can gravemind do, shes an ai? all they are doing is talking and that is how misunderstandings are solved
-
maybe she couldn't detonate Inamber Clad because of the other AI in high charity..?
-
ok by the way, cortana stayed behind to destory halo right, then why didnt she? i mean halo fired how was she to know it was going to be stopped cause keys took out the icon? so why didnt she destroy halo?
-
I really doubt that just becuase cortanta says "shoot" at the end of the game it means she's going to betray the human race. She's just responding to Gravemind and buying time considering she can't do anything, so she might as well answer some questions. And it wouldn't matter if cortana told Greaveming of earth becuase when a being becomes a host to a flood that flood gains the knowledge of that being meaning that gravemind would already know about earth. Also whoever wanted to know how old Cortanta was, she's not that old for an A.I. A.I.'s live for about 7 years and she's not that old becuase she's created at the end of the first book and halo 2 isn't that far from the first book, I woudln't be surprised if it is less than a year.
-
Wasn't she just staying behind to make sure no one remote activated the other halo's? A distraction?
Posted by: opogjijijp
Posted by: somebody talking what was the AI cortana found on high charity/
No one knows what that AI was. I have my Ideas as to what that AI may be, but they are most likely wrong. Give me a D....
Thats actually not that stupid of an Idea, after all, some people think that Durandal was able to escape the end of the Marathon Universe, so he could be involved in the Halo Universe. IMO, the curious thing about that ending is the little music thing that happens right after she says it. It sounds like she's up to something whether good or bad.

tbh i think shes one of the best things about halo. Id think it a be a stupid move to not have her in halo 3, or any new books. Im sure she still has a huge part to play. They could do soo much with her plot wise. After all the only real differnce between master chief and the other spartans is he had the augmentation to hold an A.I I doub there just dump all that after building it up soo much. To the matter of Cortana taking on soo much data yeh she did but whos to say in the next book she didnt download all that when they got to earth freeing up herlself again. The books also talked about how a.i's eventully die when lerning to much. The books went into a alot of detail about this, I cant remember for sure but it didnt say they died or stoped working it just said they started making wrong moves, mistakes ect... ie crazy.. From the books you get a good sign of this i guess once she splits herself up. She then goes on to make a few mistakes and she can feel herself losing it. lol after writing that im still confused about it all tbh i dont think there is any way we could no what will happen to cortana.

She will no doubt tell the flood about earth..................... Here come Halo 3... So if you didn't like the flood in the first 2 games, don't even buy Halo 3..

First off, let me start by saying I have a girlfriend, I go out on weekends, and I do good in school. I'm pretty popular and I do play video games for most of my free time after school. That being said, I have my barrier against being labelled a "dork". Second of all, everyone deserves their chance to ask a question instead of searching ages back into the posts and finding the one that specifically pertains to their curiousity. Finally, my main reply: First of all, Gravemind: "Silence fills the empty grave, now that I am gone. But my mind is not at rest, for questions linger on. *something to rhyme with the next verse*. I will ask, and you will answer." Cortana: "Alright. Shoot." That quote being said, along with my seeing, like thirty times, Cortana's reaction and along with having read each book twice, I am going to have to say that Cortana may be losing it. If you have read the books, think back to when she was starting to be overloaded in her memory. After being in the Covenant battlenet and also in Halo's systems, she has come near her maximum capacity. I also believe that in copying herself, she has given away small, non-noticable pieces of herself. Multiply that with the fact that she can feel emotions, she made dozens of copies, and she knows more about the Forerunners than the Covenant (besides maybe the Prophet of Truth), she has been through a -blam!- storm. Now, she may just be trying to gain more wealth. I do not believe she will return in Halo 3 and if she does I do not believe it will benefit the humans or Covenant. But I think she sees it as her last few days, if that, and is therefore trying to finish learning about the flood, thereby completing her analysis of everything about the Covenant, Forerunners, Humans, and Flood. That's a lot people. Give her credit. I think she should have cracked earlier. ~Spartan 008~ ~LostShadow0000~ ~FalleNightmare~

There is no way that Cortana is going to betray the human race and master Chief, she is just trapped with gravemind, so she is kinda forced to answer questions if she wants to stay a computer program anymore. [Edited on 2/16/2005 6:38:24 AM]

omg play it again, she says ok shoot. that means one thing shes going to answer questins. still it doesnt mean shes going to betray anyone, its all unclear just how bungie like it. One thing for sure the a.i cortana found is sure to play a big part yet.. oh and does anyone know how old cortana actully is? because arnt they suppose to go crazy after so long as they out think themselfs?

I hate these damn threads.
Prove it. I say shoot all the time, it doesnt mean I'm a dirty traitor.
Posted by: somebody talking what was the AI cortana found on high charity/

Posted by: The Grenadier What? Where did you get that from? What tasks? She was trapped on High Charity with nothing to do but twiddle her thumbs and hope that somehow she can get back to Earth

Posted by: bashveank BTW the AI wasn't on the High Charity, it was on the Unyeilding Hierophant. Also it wasn't a good AI, at least not as good as any Human AI, Cortana just said that it was strong for a covie AI. If you remember the AI was just a buggy copy of a human "smart" AI.
As Opog quoted from the game, you guys missed a pretty big clue that Cortana encountered something pretty powerful onboard either High Charity or the Forerunner ship. She uses the word "construct", which can be assumed to mean "(smart) A.I.", as GS343 calls Cortana this in Halo 1. That construct is one possibly good reason why Cortana could not just overtake the Forerunner ship systems and cancel the launch. If the construct was on High Charity, and didn't actually leave with Truth on the Forerunner ship, that construct is one possibly good reason why the POA was never detonated when the Halos were milliseconds away from galatic activation. Now, if that construct is as powerful as it is hinted at being, and it was onboard Truth's ship, then it poses a problem to the entire Earth network - and should make for interesting times in Halo 3. Here's the quote: Cortana: We don't have time for this Chief. Truth's Phantom is nearing the Forerunner's ship. Cortana: I'll disable this lift once you reach the top. That'll slow them down...I hope. Truth*: Shall we let the Flood consume our holy city? Turn High Charity into another of their wretched hives? No enemy has ever withstood our might. The Flood too shall fail. Cortana: I'll do what I can to stall the launch sequence. There's something inside the ship...a presence that's fighting back! For a Covenant construct it's unusually formidable. No time to admire the view. Truth's Phantom has reached the Forerunner ship.
Posted by: DrDark This topic annoys me to no end. I've seen it so much that all I'm going to say is those who don't know whats going one are idiots. Those who think Cortana is turning to the dark side are super idiots, and those who think they know what they're talking about but actually know nothing represent the pinicle of all things idiotic, and also desperatly need to shut there holes.
Thank you for that enlightening and informative response to the legitimate (though underinformed) question. If you have seen this question on the forums so often, then pray tell, is there perhaps a FAQ, sticky thread, special forum, or other useful place where new, inquisitive players may perhaps seek answers to such questions? Because until Bungie implements a legitmate search feature for these forum threads, do you really expect anyone to dig five or six levels deep in the topics to find the previous threads? Perhaps by harrassing them with bad spelling and questioning their intelligence, we can discourage these new, inquisitive players from asking questions here, hmm? Because I'm certain that by harrassing people who ask this question, we will discourage it from being asked in the future... by new forum-goers who are equally ignorant of the previous forum-goers who have asked this question.

somedudewhogives has a point, as much as i hate to admit it i think she mite be nuetral, or she's turnin "i robot", basically turnin evil. i saw on sum 1's xanga (bloodangels to be mor exact) a halo3 symbol. it was entitled halo3: fire down below (i hav no idea wether dis is goin to be da title so dont start shootin shyt at me) n it shoed a picture of wut lookd like da flood, n a pic of wut looked like cortana both pics wer blak n red as if connected. she changed her symbol so i'll hav to ask her for da link for now, ur jus goin to hav to believe me or not dependin on u.

oh and cortana could be captured by gravemind and may tell him what he wants to know,Keyes said to MC, If the covenant capture cortana they learn everything, weapon technology, troop deployment,....... earth. (not the exact words.) so that may be whats happening
-
invader dont act like a idiot or you turn up like me.....A freajing fudging loser.
Posted by: bashveank All Cortana said was shoot, how do you draw the conclusion that she betrayed the humans by saying shoot?
