TOOL: Halo 3 Service Record Builder

[b][u]Why is this in this forum?[/b][/u] This is in the Bungie.net forum and not the Halo 3 forum because it is not directly related to the Halo 3 game. It is related to your Bungie.net Halo 3 service record. If a Ninja feels the need to move this thread to the Halo 3 forum, please do so! [quote][/quote] [b][i]DO NOT JUST DOWNLOAD THE PACKAGE, it is NOT self explanatory! You MUST read this guide first to get the hang of how it works! Look at the bottom for the download link.[/b][/i] [quote][/quote] [u][b]Summary[/u][/b] This is a tool that I spent quite a while making. It lets you build your very own Halo 3 service record that looks however you want it to look. This is only a local tool, so it will not change your service record on Bungie.net, all it will let you do is make a Halo 3 service record that looks however you want it to look so that you can take a screenshot and show all your friends. This tool works very similarly to the Bungie.net groups Theme Builder by Cavx. [u][b]You will need[/u][/b] * to be moderately good at computers and know some basic HTML to get the most out of this * Firefox 3+ [only supported browser, I'm not sure if IE works, but I am sure that Safari does not work] * [url=http://www.winzip.com/]WinZip[/url] [b][u]The Basics[/b][/u] To customize every image on the service record, you can simply replace the default images with your own images, but they need to be called the same name as the ones you replaced them with! For example: * I want to replace my player model with a player model wearing green recon: 1. Find the new player model either by using someone else's or by creating one using [url=http://php.badrouter.net/bnet/]this free tool.[/url] 2. Download the new image and save it as PlayerModel.jpg 3. Open the following folder that was included in the service record builder package: "\Service Record Template\Default.aspx_files" 4. Copy the new player model image into that folder replacing the old one. 5. Open the file: "\Service Record Template\Default.aspx.htm" using your browser, and there you have it! Your new player model is in the service record. Here are the locations of other images that you may want to replace: - Halo 3 Emblem: "\Service Record Template\Default.aspx_files\halo2emblem_002.jpg" - The screenshot that appears on the service record: "\Service Record Template\Default.aspx_files\Screenshot.jpg" - Rank icon: "\Service Record Template\Default.aspx_files\342b27cf-8147-4503-99c2-112060d171cc.gif" You can replace any image in the folder "\Service Record Template\Default.aspx_files" with any image of your own. You can download different rank symbols, medals, emblems, etc. from real service records on Bungie.net and rename then then replace the ones in the package with those ones. [b]To change the gamertag and service tag in the service record:[/b] Open the file "\Service Record Template\Default.aspx.htm" in [b]NOTEPAD[/b] and go to: Edit, Replace. Then a dialog box will come up. In the dialog box, there will be 2 fields: Find and Replace. In the find field, type in: Enter Gamertag Here - 000 In the replace field, type Enter Gamertag Here - 000 then in the replace field, replace Enter Gamertag Here with whatever you want the gamertag to be and replace 000 with whatever you want the service tag to be. Hit the replace button. This works for most text on the service record, so if you wanted to change the rank, you would replace Global Rank: Major, Grade 1 with Global Rank: General, Grade 1 or whatever you wanted to make it. [b][u]The Advanced Customization[/b][/u] Some of you probably have good CSS and HTML editing skills, so I thought I would tell you that you can use those skills to customize the service record even further! The CSS files that make the service record work are all kept in the directory "Service Record Template\Default.aspx_files". In that directory, you will find the following CSS files: - base_20080916.css [the basic structure of the page] - images_20080617.css [the CSS file that contains the paths to the images and assists image appearance] - Main_Chillout.css [is the CSS file that runs the Chillout theme with the Cold Storage background and all that] - menu.css [runs the RadMenu at the top of Bungie.net - the one with projects, my stats, etc.] - Styles.css [the main stylesheet] You can edit any of these CSS files to dramatically change the appearance of the service record, or to assist in customization. For example, let's say I wanted to change the name of an image: I would open the images_20080617.css file and find the name of the image. I would then change the name of the image to whatever I want it to be called. Remember that if you DO rename an image in the CSS file, it will look for that image under its new name; so make sure that you also rename the image itself. If you have a web program that opens HTML web pages [such as Microsoft Expression Web] and lets you edit them as they would appear in your browser, you can easily do many things to customize the service record by changing how it looks using that program. This would also be an easier way to edit any text in the service record. Another option is simply editing the HTML code by opening the Default.aspx.htm file in a text editor. [b][u]Something to try[/b][/u] You may have noticed that in the real Bungie.net Halo 3 service records, the bar at the top where it says the player's gamertag and service tag changes color according to what color the player's armor/emblem is. In the service record builder, it is Grey. However, you CAN change it to whatever shade you want it by opening the Default.aspx.htm file in an HTML editor and finding the following in the code:
from that line of code until this:
is the styles for the banner. You will notice that there are these: rgb(00, 00, 00) AND 1px solid rgb(100, 100, 100) the first one has all 0s and is the cause of the Gray banner. The second one has all 100s and is the cause of the white line underneath the banner. You can experiment with these RGB values by changing the first, second and third numbers in the brackets. The first digit is the amount of red, the second digit is the amount of green, and the third digit is the amount of blue. 0 means less, 100 means more. In the real service records on Bungie.net both sets of numbers [rgb(00, 00, 00) AND 1px solid rgb(100, 100, 100)] are set to the same color, so I suggest doing that to make your service record more realistic. You should also set the color of that bar to the primary color of your player, as that is how it is in the real service records on Bungie.net. [b][u]OKAY, now where do I download this?[/b][/u] You may download the Halo 3 Service Record Builder [H3SRB] from the following link: [url=http://bbrulz.xna.contentweb.googlepages.com/ServiceRecordTemplate.zip]DOWNLOAD the Halo 3 Service Record Builder Files[/url] Once you have downloaded the zip file, extract it using WinZip to wherever you want to put the service record builder. Files/folders included: [+ indicates folder, - indicates file] + Service Record Template + Default.aspx_files [contains all required CSS and images] - Default.aspx.htm [this is the actual service record page, you must open it with your web browser to view the service record] [b][u]Resources[/b][/u] You may download all the Halo 3 rank images from [url=http://s251.photobucket.com/albums/gg282/BBRULZ/Halo%203%20Ranks/]here.[/url] You may download all the service record symbols/achievements/medals from [url=http://s251.photobucket.com/albums/gg282/BBRULZ/H3SRB/]here.[/url] [b][u]Help me![/b][/u] If you have any questions or comments/complaints, please post them in this thread! If I have loads of questions, I will make an FAQ for you guys. I will update this as much as I can, so please keep an eye out! If there are any mistakes, please feel free to correct me.

  • [quote][b]Posted by:[/b] tehviruss Option #2 - Install Firebug.[/quote]Firebug? Is that a scripting interface that lets you customize web pages? If so, this service record builder is easier to use for advanced customization.

  • [quote][b]Posted by:[/b] SCOTTY OWNS U You should talk to PFK about putting it in the bungie essentials pack. [/quote]I was considering that, but let's see how popular it is and what kind of feedback I receive first. [Edited on 09.19.2008 5:36 PM PDT]

EVERYTHING is changeable if you know what you're doing. [Edited on 09.19.2008 5:29 PM PDT]
