Awesome Light Level Suggestion

HoW dlc has given me a complete remake of my previous idea. There are new upgrade paths but not for anything below legendary.
My New Idea:
In HoW there will be a new upgrade material used to upgrade legendary and exotic gear to the new max light level.
Simply put, that very same material could be used in conjunction with ascendant material to upgrade the rarity of rare(blue) gear and by extension uncommon(green) gear as well.

2 RepliesBungie has already recognized transmog system as something we want as a priority. Anything else would likely take too much time/ not work with the systems they have in place. But I also like the idea of "forging" our own gear.

2 RepliesSo, the only issue I have with this is that you created a new currency, which no one wants. This is a good idea, but if you want the leveling material to have "light " in the name the Motes of Light are already good. At least then people have to decide how to best spend the resource, since it can be used for more than one thing.

I feel bad for the artists who put in all that hard work making cool looking gear that people never wear because everyone just wears either the crota or Iron Banner gear. Everyone looks like clones. there is only two choices now: wear gear that looks cool but sux wear what everyone else is wearing and be a 32 It'd be cool cuz some of the rare stuff looks cool. I hated that as a warlock my choice was be protected and have a coat that was half torn off or look bad ass and drop a couple levels. I couldn't wait to get something that looked coll AND had the protection. crotas frilly dress ain't for me so my only real choise is exotic(which I can't use my shader with) or Iron banner. I perfer almost all the uncommon and rare stuff over the ironically named symmertry rags. LET US WEAR WHAT WE THINK LOOKS COOL AND BE A 32. NOT ONE OR THE OTHER. PLEASE BUNGIE PLEASE!

5 RepliesHonestly i would like it if your character, upon reaching a light level, saves it. so even if you take off that armor your still that level. It still requires you to get that gear as well as level it up.

1 ReplyI started to like the idea...but then it got too complicated. Not that I didn't understand it, it's that we already have so many different upgrade materials and currencies....so we want/need more ? Although I do like the idea of upgrading other armour.

1 ReplyWhat you are essentially asking for after deconstructing the essence of your suggestion behind the mechanics is the ability to "xp" your way through the light levels. I'm not saying this is a bad idea because gear dependent light has proven to be a failure. However, you could de-complicate the whole process by just eliminating Light, reverting to a pure leveling system and then quality of gear simply awarding better stats/perks.

Had a similar idea. See my "we all the the same" solution! Thread I think the shard of light is just 1/4 of the overall problem.

1 ReplyGood idea, but there would also need to be a way to bump up the stats on low level gear. There is already a system in place to change the stats on gear (exotics), so in theory your idea makes sense. It would add a lot of customization :)
