Do we need to see more female characters, good or bad, in games?
My personal view is yes, we do.. But I feel that calling the gaming industry as it is now sexist or misogynistic is a little dramatic.
What do you think?
Please keep this civilised.. I've seen how quickly these things can spiral out of control.

I do want more female characters in games. I don't think they should be there just to attract guys. I want personality, and I want them to actually be interesting. Most of the females in gaming have skimpy outfits, or are simply just bc boys think they're hot, and serve no purpose to any storyline or anything relevant in the game whatsoever. That is what I have a problem with.

If it makes more sense to have a male character, then the character should be a male. If it makes more sense for a female, then make them a female. If it makes more sense for them to a be a robot, hermaphroditic space whale, non-gendered poltergeist, god, ghost, cyber-moose, brown sedan with dealer plates, super-sentient cardboard boxes, why do you think I give a fuсk? I just want to play fun games, for fuсk's sake.

I think if it fits into the story they can start adding more diversity but if a female character doesn't fit into the story and they add it that goes too far

4 RepliesEdited by DirtBoiSp3cial: 4/9/2015 3:50:16 AMI would like to see mor female characters but it all goes to the personality if there strong, witty, somewhat sarcastic, smart and for the most part independent then yes however if there just a "damsel in destress" or just to have female characters then no I don't want that.

I'm in the "Yes, we do" category. I would like to see more diversity. Not just female characters.

1 ReplyNothing wrong with diversity , but when people do it for the sake of pandering it's seems forced. Then we end up with some character that was shoe horned it and only appeal is it's black, female, etc. So yea, nothing wrong with it, long as it's good.

I would like to see more for the solitary reason that it would bring more diversity to the single player of games. However, I'm not fussed all that much. :-)

Let the market decide. Bayonetta 2 sold well but will audiences overall enjoy a new female protagonist? The answer lies in the current ratio of well known girl characters to well known male characters. The market enjoys them but the have to be well written and have a personality, which can be hard sometimes.

Do we need one? No, but it would be nice to see more pop up from time to time though.
