Dude everyone in this thread only knows mass-market bullshit. Midori? Jack Daniels? Aftershock?

I'm buying you an appletini
-
Thanks baby, but that doesn't mean I'm going to -blam!- you.

Great, hipsters have started on the alcohol market now...
-
Because someone knows more about alcohol than you, and knows more than the brands that are advertised in playboy they are a hipster? Whatever I have a huge beard and handlebar mustache anyway....

Edited by Luke3107: 4/5/2015 4:57:03 PMI meant the fact you were having a go at people only suggesting 'main-stream' alcohol. No point suggesting some obscure Russian beer that can only be found in 3 shops worldwide, pubs won't have it so you'll never be able to make a cocktail with it. Either way, if I have to do research into finding your product, I probably don't want your product in the first place. Pubs stock 'main stream' booze because it sells, simple.. EDIT: And I now realise you were probably being satirical... :-/

You know nothing of how a market works. The large brands stay large by dominating market share. They want to remove choice with the illusion of choice. Brown and foreman makes many different whiskeys in many labels. It's all basically the same bland stuff. Pernod ricard does the same thing etc. The fact that you don't want to learn about different brands made by independent producers is what the big houses are betting on. They aren't stupid, they know that most of the public will drink what they advertise. But I sell the smaller boutique brands. Many of the craft (you would say hipster) customers actually seek out new and interesting whiskeys and liquors.

I'm not interested. At the end of the day I'm not travelling 100 odd miles to buy 'John Doe' tomato ketchup when Heinz is on the shelf. My point still stands, it is being sold because people buy it. If no one bought it, it wouldn't be stocked. Shops still have to pay for what they put on the shelves, if they don't make money from that stock they won't sell it. You can argue that 'X' brand is actually just 'Y' brand under a different name, that may well be true. But if 'Y' brand is obscure and can only be found for sale in the himalayan mountains then I'm damn well buying brand 'X'.

You missed the point. Enjoy your McDonald's.
-
I don't like McDonalds
-
Thats the booze your drinking. It's basically the same shit.
-
I still don't get why you're bothered about my preference for Jack Daniels over your 'Non Mainstream' stuff
-
Because it's shit. There is so much great stuff out there, but you have to look beyond the normal stuff. The brands I'm talking about are there in the stores. They are there, you just have to talk to the clerks and they can tell you quite a bit about them.
-
I like Jack Daniels because it tastes nice, can be mixed with many things if I fancy something different and/or want to stretch out the bottle a bit further. You can slate my drink choice all you want but it's no different than if I bashed on your music choice. When I want to try something new, I will look for something new. Until then, Jack Daniels and Stella Artois are my go to poisons.

RED DEATH It's a variation on dale degroff's New York sour. 2oz journeyman silver cross whiskey 1/2 oz Lazzaroni amaretto 1 1/2 oz lemon juice 1 oz simple syrup Combine all ingredients Ina large shaker with ice & shake vigorously. Pour contents into a tall Collins glass. Float 1/4 oz of dry red wine (malbec or Merlot is good) on top of the finished cocktail.
