Usually I assume they're just bored and trolling basically.
One time though I was in a 6v6 match in which both sides were teamed up into full fireteams. It was the closest you could get to a clan match in Destiny. Assorted OP loadouts everywhere..Anyway one guy got like 22 kills with nlb. I was impressed.
