Exotic upgrade nerfed my gun, wasted my coins, and wasted my time?
I had my MIDA Multi like 2/3 upgraded and I see that xur has the exotic upgrade for it. i'm like cool, an upgrade. so i spend the 7 coins, buy a shard, buy the upgrade... and it takes away all my bonuses and nerfs the gun back to the way it was when i 1st got it!?? WHAT THE HELL??? That was like 12 hours worth of play time and seven coins down the drain.
I mean why would this even be allowed? why isn't there an error message or a warning?

You see an expensive upgrade to a gun, without recognising there was once lower attack versions of the same gun, and it is logical to expect it will upgrade your gun. Most often people who responded to this thread obviously haven't made it through the kindergurdan lessons on how to be kind.

Geez noob alert. That upgrade is for earlier version guns that only go up to 300 attack. That upgrade is not for a 331 weapon.

Man, they need to fix this already. I mean it's not your fault you're a noob but seriously if I just started playing I wouldn't know any better either. They should make it so you can't do the xur upgrade unless it's a 300 exotic. If it's a 2.0 exotic it shouldn't give you an option to upgrade.

It really took you 12 hours to get the gun 2/3 of the way upgraded? It literally takes just a few days of bounties. Maybe 3 hours total to upgrade an exotic fully.

They did this when TDB came around, and weapon damage was buffed. It basically upgrades your old 300 damage max gun into a 340-360 gun. Really need to be more clear on that

Every week someone posts this. How dumb are you people? The upgrades xur sells is for pre dlc 300weapons so they can be 331weapons........duh.

While moot for the OP let it be known that when you hover the cursor over an upgrade rather you can buy it or not, the FULL weapon/armor stats you will be "upgrading" too are viewable. In other words it plainly shows you that the gun will be 302/331 and the armors will be 30/36 light, as well as a new intellect/discipline/strength rating.

It's because you're a scrub. The upgrade was to get the weapon to 331 after TDB released. It was never meant as anything more than that.

I still have a 300 max Red Death. Sort of a memento from the good ol days. Xur didn't sell the upgrade for a looooong time, and when he finally did, he was selling the gun straight up, so I bought one instead of upgrading. THIS is what weapon upgrades were for, and probably will be for when HoW drops. For new players, weapon upgrading is useless if they never had a 300 max exotic, because all the exotics they've collected are most likely 331 max. Upgrading armor is still viable, however. There are a lot of intellect/discipline/strength rolls that can be improved by upgrading maxed armor. Sure, you start from scratch, but when you get it back to max, your stats are better than they were. Upgrade.

12 hours? do 10 5k bounties, pop a telemetry, turn it in and ur halfway done or at least 3/10 done, quick and easy

I did the same thing with a fully upgraded Icebreaker about a month ago. Did I ever feel dumb after that.

2 RepliesBungie has already admitted this was a mistake on their part, and have vaguely hinted at a different upgrade path for HoW. A couple days bounties and a few telemetries and you'll be right back where you were. =)

Wait, you didn't know that Xur resets your weapons upgrade tree? It's been like this for a long time.

You must be new. Try playing from day 1 where you realised the dlc basically made everything done previously a complete waste of time.
