Guardians,
I am L29 but I will be honest I am not that good at the game even though I love playing it. I have been nervous to do the big strikes/raids and have only ventured into The Crucible this week after having the game since Xmas.
To some this might be a stupid question but why is it that some Crucible Guardians have shield meters above their health bar and others (like me) dont? What armour/perk is needed for shield protection? My defence figure is something in the 1400s but it is obvious many of you have much higher than that, and coupled with my pathetic attempt to play PvP it makes me an easy target!!
If anyone can answer this for me I'd be grateful
Thanks
Stuey

Edited by CHICKENSQUARE: 4/3/2015 12:34:37 AMThe white bar at the top of your screen is actually 2 separate health bars. The first bar is your actual health (shows as about 15-20% of the bar) and the second is your shield. You'll notice this if you're at critical health and use an ability with transfusion or pick up an orb while wearing a gear piece with the orb transfusion perk. This is also why Red Death is so effective against Thorn. If you're at critical health after being shot by Thorn and you kill the user, you'll see that your health bar fully replenishes (giving you 100hp) and your shield takes all the DoT ticks.

1 ReplyArmor has no matter in crucible. There are some perks that the titans and warlocks have that give an over shield after melee it using the drop shield.
-
4 Repliesdon't use auto's,theyve been nerfed more than anything else find/buy a decent shotty/fusion rifle, snipers are at a disadvantage in this games map type. use a high mag mg,youll get lots of heavy ammo from drops to kill many more than you can with rockets

Everything you need to know: Level, defense and attack mean nothing whatsoever. There are two types of shields, the most common one just means that the player has "white health" the shield above their health bar will start to go down once you hit them just like if they hit you your shield will go down eventually to just the red bar. The second shield is due to an ability activating, and the player will be "glowing" blue. They either got this shield from hitting someone with the the sunsinger melee, killing someone with the defender melee, or Receiving an ability from a titan ward of dawn(blessing of light if they're out of the bubble, and armor if they're inside it). If you're new to crucible make sure you have the right class. Comment your class in response to this and I'll tell you what your build should be.

4 RepliesEdited by G4LL0WGL455: 4/2/2015 5:43:02 PMI've been playing since the beta and still suck at PVP. I like it, I'm just usually the player at the bottom of the team list win or lose. I try to play the game type and contribute to my team. I know my stats are bad, below 1.0 but I still try. From the posts here in response to your comment I find a lot of good encouragement for you and me. Thanks to everyone.

8 RepliesEdited by Mink622: 4/2/2015 5:58:05 PMEvery guardian has 200 health points in the crucible. Some classes have perks/supers to grant over shields of 100 health points while others grant damage resistance of 50% (your hit of 80 will do 40 when they have this buff). The time to kill in crucible is relatively fast, it takes some time getting used to. I remember the first time I played crucible, I thought levels mattered and was so frustrated because I didnt understand the time to kill compared to others games.

Edited by Elitespear: 4/2/2015 7:03:19 PMSunsinger warlocks flame shield Defender titan shield Blessing of light given by walking through a ward of dawn. That's where the overshield comes from. They are perks.

Edited by Tein: 4/2/2015 6:01:05 PMOK so every person in pvp has shields I play a lot of PvP on destiny even I've seen level 5 have shields if you are referring to the little white bar its just like when u get shot at and then your health bar goes to red. But when u hit another person and once u get there (white) health down that when there screen starts blinking cuz its red. But if u r reffering to the blue health bar its cuz the titans have a shield once the melee someone same with warlocks but hunters they turn invisible or they get a throwing knife right back or they just got out of a titan bubble. So it has nothing to do with your level or your armor everyone has a white shield and BTW I sucked at PvP once to but now I top leader boards every game and have flawless games so just keep playing and you will get use to the flow of PvP and just find your attack style it will come in time.

It's just an over shield that some classes have. And you should really try out the raids, they're the funnest part of the game. If you need someone to help you can add if you're on the one :)
-
Some melee abilities give you an 'overshield' when you kill an enemy. Defender Titans have force barrier and sunsingers (pretty sure) get one after they hit/kill (not sure which) an enemy.

Just keep playing. Expand your map knowledge. Find choke points. Use guns that you feel comfortable with not what others are using. (I still use Suros even though people say its been nerfed to death.) Map knowledge. Learn to adapt to the situation at hand. Don't rush in trying to stop people taking control points. Its better to get an assist than to give them a kill and the CP. Map knowledge. But most importantly enjoy yourself. Its a game after all. Don't worry too much about it.

You have a shield meter, it ends where your health goes red bar. You can kinda hear the shield breaking
-
Just play, a lot and you will inevitably get better and understand the game.
-
You have a shield meter as well it just doesn't display on your screen the same as others appear on yours. Your shield is the majority of the right side of the bar and your health / armor is the remaining red bar at the left. Also your armor (Armor / Recovery / Agility; NOT DEF rating) rating in the Crucible makes arguably no difference in the amount of damage you take. DEF rating has 0 impact in crucible outside of Iron Banner.

Thanks for your replies everyone.............love the fact so many people actually like to help people out and help them improve. If you didn't get my tag etc I am on PS4 and my PSN ID is the same as my user name so send me afriend request!

There are to parts to your health bar. Your health and your shield. Your health is the part on the far left that goes red when damage goes to it. Your shield is every other bit. In crucible this is shown by a shield bar over a health bar. It's still there in PvE content but only on guardians. Hope this helped!

2 RepliesI don't really like crucible so I will be no help, I do like to run a little iron banner when it comes out. but if you are on 360 I like running roc strikes and wouldn't mind helping you get through them and show you some easier ways to get through them until you get a little better with strikes. I would even help you with some raids vog hard or normal and normal crota since at level 29 that is the only one you can do. I have a good little clan set up that really enjoys helping people. so the offer is on the table, its now in your hands to accept.. have a good day..

1 ReplyHeya Stuey.. :) Soo for Crucible ( PvP ) Defense means nothing.. Attack Rating on your weapons mean nothing... It's not till Iron Banner these things matter..and even that.. Bungie still has some work to do.. ( Rares still wreck in Iron Banner ) .. Now everyone uses Shotguns in PvP.. if you haven't already noticed.. tho they nerfed Shotguns in PvP with the Range mainly..So people all use Felwinters Lie with Hammer Forged and Shot Package.. tho if you can get your hands on a decent Sidewinder w/ a Range Perk.. or something similar.. Found Verdict ( VoG Shotgun ) ... Most are using... Thorn..The Last Word.. Hawkmoon ( PS ) .. all Exotic Handcannons.. or since Pulse Rifles got a dmg buff.. Red Death.. tho Stuey, if you can find.. New Heart LDD or Evergreen II.I ...both Rare Pulse Rifles ( Blue ).. I still use Evergreen II.I to this day in PvP.. I like it more than Red Death.. these two Pulse Rifles are hidden gems many just dismantle and don't give a second look.. ..I gotta get to work here.. but quickly.. PvP Set-Up.. Sunsinger..Flame Shield..Viking Funeral..Touch of Flame..Firebolt Grenade...... I was never good at sticking people with Fusion Nades..

Defence stats, much like damage stats, do nothing in regular PvP (i.e. anything outside of Iron Banner and, I think, Trials of Osiris). What matters is impact and, to a slight extent, armour (though not by more than plus minus a shot or two with an AR). Everyone has a shield. Warlocks and Titans can have extra shields, but very rarely do. The reason why you're experiencing being an easy target is that you're not used to Crucible, the maps, strategies and whatnot. It has nothing to do with your level.
-
The health bar on the top of your screen is the shield. Once the health bar goes red, the shield is gone on your character.
-
Do you mean the white bar underneath the red (health) bar? If you do then that's something everyone has, even you.
-
Titan can sprint and build up a shield. Warlock can have a shield after a melee kill. Best to take cover from those players and look for an easier target while staying alive of course. My suggestion would be get the Thorn exotic bounty if you can and get Thorn it will make PvP enjoyable. Don't hurt your team by dying 20 times in a match. Bull rushing into the fray is for experienced players who have skills with shorter range weapons like last word or fusion or shottys, stay near a zone and pick people off as they come for it until you get better with closer range weapons.
-
Warlock=Flame shield from meleeing someone. Titan=Force Barrier if a Titan kills someone. Hope this helps. :)
-
If you're a warlock its a melee perk. If your a Titan its some Titan magic

Edited by Seraph_777: 4/2/2015 10:33:56 AMWith Strikes just keep up with the other Guardians and shoot everything, you'll soon learn spawn points and what to expect, then you can pull your weight. Just try to max your main weapon to have a good damage output and build up a couple of special weapons, my pref is a sniper and a shotgun for different situations. Heavy or your special for crowd control. They can be fun with a good fire team. Crucible - the best thing you can do is stick with it and learn the maps. In normal games your radar is your best friend. Control is probably best to start, capture and defend two points. Have fun.
