Edit: you guys are killing my battery! Stop replying! Just accept you're wrong and move on. No one is perfect, not even me(though I'm damn close if you ask my girl friend) it's okay!! And yes I'm aware this will get me even more responses. Prove me wrong and shush! Fiiiine! Be jerks. I've disabled notifications for now. Sorry for trying to help you people!
They are heavy machine guns! This is how bungie even refers to them, not LMG!
Edit: this has been very entertaining, thank you all for making this my most popular thread evar! Keep it coming!
But okay, to address a few points that have been made:
First "in the military a machine gun of this size is called a LMG blah blah blah." Well LA de dah! Good for the military! This is not the military, this is DESTINY, a video game, not real life.
Second: "in real life an HMG is mounted on a vehicle or some other stable platform!" Again, this is not real life, this is a video game! Our HMGs are mounted! They are mounted on our big burly space magic wielding guardians. We are strong enough and magical enough we don't need them mounted! Also as a side note I'm curious what people think of the machine guns in Halo that were mounted. Did they go from HMGs when they were mounted but when master chief ripped one off did it become an LMG?
Third, "what about just machine gun, as that's what they are called in destiny." While yes, they are just called machine guns and I applaud your willingness to compromise, they are indeed still HMGs. The heavy part is implied because they go into the heavy weapon slots.
And finally, the quote from bungie, and they obviously know more about their own game than you folks:
HMGs
· Improved HMG projectile networking.

Keep it coming though, I appreciate all the responses even though the vast majority of you folks are wrong. :)
Edit 2: also, yallerhorn, not gallerjorn! And "a lot" not "alot" while I'm educating you guys.

All rocket launchers with tracking should be reclassified as missile launchers.
-
Do you really have nothing better to do?
-
Maybe people like saying that because its quicker? You don't speak for an entire community so please delete this post

Edited by Ridi8kulos: 4/2/2015 6:59:25 PMWhat is LMG stand for?
-
wow . this went from simple "Nerd Rage" to "I'm the most arrogant -blam!-er here" quick....
-
Well i guess we should call rocket launchers heavy rocket launchers by your standards then
-
Last time i checked, YOU ARENT MY MOM! ILL SAY WHAT I DAMN PLEASE!
-
Your dumb and oviously wrong
-
Im trying to imply you're a nerd simple as that
-
I call then "machine guns" simply "machine guns".
-
I love it when nerds try to correct ppl because they're annoyed by the way they call weapons in video games it's great -_-
-
HMGs are the kind of weapons that are mounted to the back of vehicles as they are just too heavy to carry in any kind of usable way. LMGs are slightly less bulky and are usable by a single man. So by that logic, they are LMGs not HMGs
-
I just call them MGs, ill slip up and say LMG from titme to time just due to playing too much CoD
-
Edited by ERICBEON: 4/2/2015 7:27:35 PMHaha I call them LMG's .. I play a lot of Battlefield
-
so me calling fellwinters lie a sniper is ok because this is a game and not real life?
-
Hey. Idiot. LMGs, MGs, and HMGs are all different gun types.
-
NERF heavy machine guns so that we may call them light machine guns, NERF THEM, THEIR NAME IS TOO OP
-
Edited by Guardian7591: 4/2/2015 7:22:15 PMOh, and it's pronounced yatlerhorn.
-
Edited by nuked24: 4/2/2015 7:22:32 PMI usually end up doing this- If it kills Thrall in one body shot, it's a heavy machine gun; If it kills Thrall in more than one body shot, it's a light machine gun.
This test is done on Moon Patrol with level 31 Hunter, no damage buffs, in the World's Grave.
-
I differentiate them by type. Slow, high impact machine guns like deviant gravity or against all odds are hmgs, while faster firing machine guns like super good advice or harm's way are lmgs.
-
I don't get why they call them LMGs. I haven't held one before, but they don't seem very "light"
-
Yea it's just an MG. No need for another letter to distinguish.
-
Edited by Pink Nyxie: 4/2/2015 7:14:50 PMSocrates it's a video game Calm down before you hurt yourself
-
I think they call them just "machine guns"
