Why do people call the Weekly Heroic Strike "The Weekly"?
There is the weekly heroic strike and the weekly nightfall strike and I don't understand why so many people refer to the weekly heroic as just "The weekly".
Edit: Wow, lot's of sheep out there that just say what everyone else is saying even if it doesn't make sense. For the record, I applaud anyone that uses the term "Weekly Heroic" when referring to The Weekly Heroic.

Because there is also a Daily Heroic, so if you just say the Heroic which one are you talking about? Makes more sense to call it the weekly.

Calling it Just the heroic would cause confusion, as there's a daily and a weekly heroic. By calling in the weekly, you know its not The daily event, and you know it's not the weekly nightfall strike as you call that the nightfall, not the weekly nightfall. Therefore, calling It the weekly makes perfect sense to just about everybody. Personally, If I'm speaking in person, I will call it the weekly heroic. But given that the English language favors shortening words as much as possible, I usually just write "weekly" unless more clarification is needed. Takes less time and effort, both of which we naturally preserve as much as possible.

Why does it matter if everyone understands? Nightfall is pretty clear. "The Weekly" is a shortened version of Weekly Heroic. There's no reason to congratulate people on saying, "Weekly Heroic." Don't be so petty.

I just call it the Heroic Strike. I refer to the Nightfall Strike as a "Nightfall" and I call the Daily Heroic Story the "Daily".
