A topic that has come up often with this community, is the fact that people can skip VoG, and get to 31. There might be a way to fix this, and it has to do with ascendent materials. As most people know, ascendent materials are not uncommon. You can get them from the VoG, Public events, daily story, nightfall, destroying armour, reward packages, and engrams. But what if we limited what dropped ascendent materials? What if it was only VoG? I see this as a win win for bungie, and the community. Bungie wins by having a less chance of people getting materials, having to do the raid more, and an increase to playtime. The community just stops getting 9 materials added to their 200+ colection. The only problem with this is that people who have a ton of materials saved up, can instantly get a charter to level 31. So maybe add a VoG item that is needed to upgrade armour, and a max of one per week, and as a random drop. Tl; Dr Take ascendent materials out of drops and keep it to VoG. Edit: A lot of people are talking about how people don't have time to raid, in that case, how about keep it for Daily heroic story, and sharding armour, and VoG Edit: Upgrade the VoG to level 32 instead

  • Just, no. End - Game content gets out leveled and left behind (in terms of required progression) when the level cap raises. This is a staple of MMO games, and one of the MMO-elements that Destiny has used. There is also a sense of different paths to leveling up, which your idea would totally destroy. Forcing all players to run the VOG at least 3 times (if including your idea for a special item needed to upgrade Armour that only drops once a week) just to level their gear. More then that if the drop is random. This would bring progression for new players/characters to a screeching halt. What if people (shocker here) dint WANT to raid? Now, not only are they blocked from being max level (which I am ok with, btw, as only raiders need max level really), but they are blocked from continuing the game. Cause if they can't get mats to upgrade gear, they will max out at 26. And if you think it is bad when non-pvp players complain about having to do pvp for OPTIONAL bounties, imagine when non-raiders (of which there are plenty) are forced into the raid to experience the rest 9 the game. It would be a mess. People need to remember that there are millions of players in this game, and not everybody plays the same way. And while your idea might be a win-win for bungie, it is a lose-lose for the players. Longer progression (which only pads play time, not extends it) and forced activities.
