Making VoG relevant

A topic that has come up often with this community, is the fact that people can skip VoG, and get to 31. There might be a way to fix this, and it has to do with ascendent materials. As most people know, ascendent materials are not uncommon. You can get them from the VoG, Public events, daily story, nightfall, destroying armour, reward packages, and engrams. But what if we limited what dropped ascendent materials? What if it was only VoG? I see this as a win win for bungie, and the community. Bungie wins by having a less chance of people getting materials, having to do the raid more, and an increase to playtime. The community just stops getting 9 materials added to their 200+ colection. The only problem with this is that people who have a ton of materials saved up, can instantly get a charter to level 31. So maybe add a VoG item that is needed to upgrade armour, and a max of one per week, and as a random drop. Tl; Dr Take ascendent materials out of drops and keep it to VoG. Edit: A lot of people are talking about how people don't have time to raid, in that case, how about keep it for Daily heroic story, and sharding armour, and VoG Edit: Upgrade the VoG to level 32 instead

  • Just, no. End - Game content gets out leveled and left behind (in terms of required progression) when the level cap raises. This is a staple of MMO games, and one of the MMO-elements that Destiny has used. There is also a sense of different paths to leveling up, which your idea would totally destroy. Forcing all players to run the VOG at least 3 times (if including your idea for a special item needed to upgrade Armour that only drops once a week) just to level their gear. More then that if the drop is random. This would bring progression for new players/characters to a screeching halt. What if people (shocker here) dint WANT to raid? Now, not only are they blocked from being max level (which I am ok with, btw, as only raiders need max level really), but they are blocked from continuing the game. Cause if they can't get mats to upgrade gear, they will max out at 26. And if you think it is bad when non-pvp players complain about having to do pvp for OPTIONAL bounties, imagine when non-raiders (of which there are plenty) are forced into the raid to experience the rest 9 the game. It would be a mess. People need to remember that there are millions of players in this game, and not everybody plays the same way. And while your idea might be a win-win for bungie, it is a lose-lose for the players. Longer progression (which only pads play time, not extends it) and forced activities.

Why not make all raids always be relevant by having each raid have tiers of difficulty with appropriate rewards? If they had a level 32 Vog with a chance to drop 331 fatebringers don't you think people would be all over it? Just let the 26-28 raids drop 300 weapons, the 30-32 raids drop 331, and the 34 and up drop the next stuff coming down the pipeline. All raids would offer incentives, and completing each would make the next higher tier easier. Just a thought.

I disagree, the vault served it's purpose and you can still go back to it for the enjoyment + exotics :)

          • sorry but most players have 250+ ascendant materials more than enough to not need to play the VoG plus once you get to 27 with unupgraded vender gear and an exotic you have people run you through CE and never need to touch VoG. my third character never touched VoG until he was lvl 31 and i was bored and wanted HV rocket launcher tbh you can skip VoG and do fine Especially since nothing CE needs ascendant mats. and i don't think exotics do anymore

          • I have a feeling there will be a dlc where it raises previous raids o the current level. Moms seem to do this on pc sometimes.

          • Why isn't there a choice of running the VOG because it's fun? It is a fun raid to do and isn't very difficult. Most of the glitches can be fixed by going to orbit to refresh, the confluxes are a great orb session, the templar is a challenge to prevent teleporting, extremely difficult to do on hard. Atheon is a way easy....too much ADD in our world I guess.

          • Forcing people to do something doesn't make it "relevant" It makes it a tedious chore to get through to do the things I want. I can't stress this enough, people playing a game mode they're forced to (or feel forced to) play do not make for good team mates I feel like a better solution is replace the ascendant mats with something else, a currency of some sort And move the actual mats to a vendor. What that would do is take some of the sting out of getting a mat you don't need, shards when you need energy, or vice versa. It wouldn't necessarily mean getting more, so like you'd get 1/2 for the daily, 10ish from NF, the usual from raid chests, etc And the vendor could have other stuff so getting the currency when you don't need mats wouldn't be totally worthless either. Telemetries, shaders, ghost shells?

          • Make sections of the VoG playable missions. (I.e confluxs, oracles, templar, ect.) ((Minus the drop of raid weapons and gear)) This way people can get bits of vog experience, while earning upgrade material. Then if people really want raid weapons and gear and higher chances of exotics, they have to do the actual raid. Personally I'd love to do atheon as a daily. Or farm gatekeepers when it's the daily. Food for thought

            • I think a lot of the votes are, "yes, make VoG relevant," and not, "yes, make VoG the only place to get ascendant materials from." This is the equivalent to a nerf. You're proposing that bungie fix this game by taking away from the game we've already adapted to. Bad idea. The right way to make something relevant at this point is to either make new VoG raid gear, or make it so you can get radiant materials from VoG as well that upgrades VoG gear to new max level.

I don't think Raids should be required to hit the Light level cap at all. Raid gear should be compelling through its perks, not because it's the only way to the Light level cap.

              • You shouldn't limit access to the materials just to force people to Raid. The game offers different things to different people. As stated by others, if Raiding was mandatory to get anywhere, the player drop-off would be tremendous. One of the better things they did for the CE raid was make the materials for the Raid armor and weapons only available in the raid. Does not affect the vendor or PvP gear. What Bungie needs to do to make VoG relevant is have the rewards match or exceed the common gear, not leave the levels behind as they did. The VoG drops really were not that often. Too many people were stuck missing one important piece of gear due to RNG. Also, being able to reach max level should be available to Raiders and non-Raiders alike. The IB gear gives options. But you should NOT have to Raid to get gear that helps you get through the Nightfall or max Weekly Heroic.

              • If they make it so everyone has to go through every raid to progress, i think that would lead to a lot of people dropping out. Which would kill the game. The current system i think is right. There needs to be a way for the more casual non-raiding players to get to competative (but not the current highest) levels so they feel incentivised to play (if their play consists of story/weeklies/roc strikes etc )
