I'd have to disagree and not because I'm an asshole and think it's stupid :)
But because currently when I see someone with raid gear on I know holy crap they have all raid gear and must of done VoG/CE a bunch to get there.
Or..
If they have a specific exotic on(like don't touch me) I can look at that and get a glimpse into their play style
Or...
If they have all iron banner gear I know they run a ton of PVP and are pretty good at it
If players allowed to change their look I wouldn't see these amazing players and know how awesome they are because although they might have all raid gear equipped they decided to make it look like a bunch of green items cuz they thought it looked cool
I hope that makes sense...

Be able to piggyback on the raid doesn't really mean your good. IB armor means you play crucible.. nuff said

Your argument makes sense but I do have to point out a huge flaw with your argument. Just because they have full raid gear gear DOES NOT necessarily mean they are good. There are an excess of people who completely suck at destiny and have everything there is because they get lucky with the RNG system. This game is rewarded on luck not necessarily skill. I can't count the amount of level 32 people I have done raids with who are god awful yet they still have full raid gear. Just something I thought I should point out.

right! friend gets carried through nightfall and gets gjallarhorn
-
Exactly. Then my friend who has played since day one still does not have the last word or gjallarhorn yet I've been playing since January and I have both.

Edited by JayLaggy: 3/30/2015 6:43:48 PMI didn't sy if they had full raid gear they were good, I said they must of done a lot of raids, but you still have a good point, someone could get all raid armor pieces in a few playthroughs
-
Yeah I didn't mean to say you were wrong if that's what it seemed like I was just playing devil's advocate. I got really lucky with my hunter and got all the raid pieces within about three weeks, not quite so lucky with my titan and warlock though as I am still missing one piece on both of those charecters.
-
Same, got all hunter CE raid gear in 2 playthroughs, but still missing 1 piece from VoG for my warlock even though I play it on hard every week
-
I haven't started collecting the vog armor yet. I still have not gotten vision of confluence nor the heavy machine gun which I can't remember the name, corrective measure? I have every hard raid weapon on crota yet I am still missing black hammer and song of ir yut.
-
I'm only missing the crux and hunger from CE, this down time b4 HoW is killing me!
-
In missing the crux, suros, no land, universal, plan c weapons wise. At least for the exotics.
-
The solution is to have skins that maintain certain appearances of gear like that or vanity items that don't cover all of the rest. For example, Starfire Protocol can keep the triangles in the center but use different robe styles. Saint-14 still has the Roman top but different helmets, etc.
-
That could work really well. The unique features of the armor stay the same but you could alter the less significant parts.
-
Exactly
-
It makes complete sense and I appreciate you point of view. No idea is perfect from the start, and mine is no exception. Perhaps there could be a viewing option where one can go into the menu and turn it on/off.
-
Have you played Diablo 3? That game has exactly what you are talking about, it's called transmorgifation(or something like that) It works well in that game I think because there are soooooooo many different pieces of gear it's hard to look at another character and know where it came from based on its looks, plus I don't think(key word there, "think") there is any gear in that game that you get by completing specific objectives, like destiny has with raid gear and iron banner gear
-
I do understand where you're coming from. Seeing an opponent in the crucible with full IB gear is a little unnerving, and going into the raid with someone who has full raid gear tends to comfort someone knowing that they're with an extremely experienced player.
-
You make a fine point. I have played Diablo 3 extensively. That system does work quite well in that game because of the loot system, you could get any piece of armor and change it to have the same buffs as someone else's.
-
Maybe you could have it where you could change the look of some gear but not others? Like not be able to change gear that had a story to it? Raid, IB, exotics? But say you like the stats on a random legendary gear but you like the look of FWC. And not be able to swap from a DO gear to look like FWC(cuz that's just weird, that's the factions gear!!) After writing and discussing this I think it would be okay with those random legendary drops to do it too, ones that don't have a story of how you got it tied to it
-
I see what you mean. You wouldn't be able to change the look of unique items such as faction gear or raid gear. Stuff you had to earn. But the stuff you get from say, the nightfall or weekly heroic strike can be changed.
-
Yea, exactly, I'd be down for that
-
If that were the case then there would be no reason to implement the vanity system in the first place. The reason everyone looks the same is because everyone wants to be max level. You can't achieve that without raid gear or IB gear. If bungie adds transmog there needs to be no limitations except maybe exotics. Although I'd like no limitations. Right now I'm very tired of seeing all the space vampires space Frankensteins and space bugs running around. Crota gear looks like crap...
