IGN: DOES DESTINY RAIDS NEED MATCHMAKING?

EDIT: I got this post from a guy 7vnSound on IGN who made a great point. I honestly completed the raids plenty of times and the Destiny family is excellent. The point that saying matchmaking would ruin the game because you would be playing with randoms is completely invalid due to the fact that the community itself has made a system where you find RANDOM people to raid with and complete it with errors here and there. Yes, matchmaking should be implemented for Normal raids only. Im a 32 Hunter who's helped plenty of Guardians and not once have I helped someone who made the game less of an experience. When people go into a raid they already know it will be hard and a bit frustrating, but its never a "OH MY GOD, YOU SUCK GET OUT AND WE WILL FIND SOMEONE ELSE" When someone messes up you simply pair them with a Guardian who's more experienced. I know because I used to be new like everyone else. ALSO EVERY SINGLE TIME everyone has there boots on the ground before it even starts, everyone discusses there raid knowledge and who knows what there doing and who are new. So getting frustrated with someone is never a SERIOUS issue because you all established from the jump who was new, and most people will always be a helping hand to teaching them how to get past sections successfully. When you have 23% of your community completing raids, a lot of guys want to keep it that way so they can feel like there better than the other guardian when that should never be the case. I can back up everything I say because I'm one of those guys who helps others and have gotten plenty of randoms to complete the raid. Its sad when you have simple minded people who are so focused on raids being this "ELITE STATUS" of people when there are others who simply want to play the raid to experience it for themselves. I am a Guardian who SUPPORTS matchmaking.

  • I agree with making it optional. The problem right now is the guardians that want to learn certain aspects of raids don't have a chance. We could have more swordbearers/more relic runners, and more well rounded raiders. However we are seeing on the forums " must run sword max this max that". Only way to be experienced is by making mistakes and getting better. Not having the pressure of being kicked or -blaming- things up.

    • No way make matchmaking for raids! It would be way to easy and remove a social aspect of destiny. The social aspect is finding a raid team and playing with them and making friends.

      • I would say that it needs optional matchmaking.

      • There's also the issue of checkpoints... The issue that matchmaking usually matches you with your level meaning a level 31 will never see a 32 in a raid

      • There should be matchmaking but instead should an option as to the fact that some people want randoms that actually know what to do and that the raid noobs have a chance in participating rather than just getting blown off by other groups

There should be a spot in the tower where you can form fire teams for specific tasks, such as daily bounties or raids and you should have to fill out a quick thing and have a sound check for microphones, we should call it the strategic planner

        • have u ever tried communicating with other randoms in a pvp match? 99.999999999% of the time nobody says anything or dont have mic. i have not been able to communicate with those i get matched with in weekly heroic either. that alone is reason enuf why matchmaking is terrible for raids

        • like destin said, as optional if you so desire, strike matchmaking should be ootional too, if ppl would like to solo them, they should have an option to do that.

        • If they made it how you had to complete the raid a few times before unlocking matchmaking for it that would be good, then you would be guaranteed to get into a raid with people who have completed it before

        • I don't understand all the hate saying it would ruin it just cause there's matchmaking doesn't mean you can't make a fire-team before hand like people do now

I firmly believe that when you go ask any seasoned raider which raid was the most special, the answer would probably be "the first one". You know, the raid in which you didnt have 6x 32 lvl guardians with 6x 331 Gjallarhorns & 331 Ice Breakers and where everyone didnt know every single step of the raid like the back of their hand. Every time I open some LFG -service thinking "todays the day I'm gonna get into raiding" and then I see all the endless listings which all look something like this; "Lvl 32 something-or-other with all maxed gear, 331 Ghorn, IB, Black Hammer you name it. Experienced only, super fast mode LETS GO". Yeah, I wouldnt wanna play with that guy I even if was equally well geared and experienced. I believe the true test which measures the skill and determination of any player, is to put him/her in a situation where they do NOT have the 100% perfect set up. Just using what you have and working together to make things happen. Anyway, I'm rambling here. Yeah 100% agree with everything you said. Optional matchmaking or some kind of in-game tools for finding not so elitist Guardians to try raiding with.

No. Why? Because: 1) there are too many current issues with the matchmaking that Bungie has instituted without viable solutions, such as AFKers and people attempting content above their level while being underequipped. The community has already become divided on these issues since matchmaking implementation and adding it to a raid without fixes would only create further discord. You would have to institute a kick option and find a way to ensure it isn't abused to troll players. 2) You have to remember raids have checkpoints, unlike strikes. They would need to devise a way that would make certain people didn't matchmake into a raid at the last checkpoint when they hadn't completed the first 3 or 4. 3) If someone gets dropped due to server issues or otherwise, their place can easily be taken by a new random player, shafting the first player out of completing the fight without potentially starting over. You would have to devise a way to lock a fireteam or turn off the matchmaking, which couldn't happen since in a normal raid, one person is fireteam leader, however if you notice in matchmade strikes, each person is listed on their own screen as the leader. Edit: 4) Ever been in a matchmade strike that takes too long and people quit? Yeah, imagine that with a raid. Dropping from 6 to 5 or less because people don't want to tough it out. Then you're stuck waiting for another person to matchmake in or...getting on an lfg site to find someone. I get it, people want to raid, but matchmaking isn't the best solution. Find a clan, or use the100.io to get placed into an instant clan of people. It's easy, put in some basic info, get dropped into a group of like minded players, post a session or join a current one, and commence raiding. The100 is 10x better than an lfg site.

No but they do need a social area for players to meet when looking to raid. Like the unused bar in the Tower.

            • I trust lfg because I know those groups I get out of there are committed. There taking their time to search for a team. 99% of the time people don't use the chat system in match making

            • Only as an optional thing. Some people would rather be one man down then have an afk player.

            • Until afk is addressed properly raid matchmaking should never happen.

            • The people who want matchmaking in raids above all else have never or have little experience with raiding. Any veteran will tell you raids are a fully cooperative mission that requires teamwork and communication. You can get away with it in a strike or PvP but not in a raid. Timing is everything if you want to complete each section and the entire raid. Milling about, not listening or deciding you are too shy to use a mic won't cut it. I understand people want to raid and feel it's far too elitist the way it is. If you don't at least try LFG you never will. I'm not being mean or elitist, just honest and if matchmaking becomes a reality it must be optional. I for one don't want to take part in 12 hour marathon because of AFKers, new comers and know-it-alls bickering over who's fault it is we can't open the door to the VoG or cross the abyss on normal.

              • I've never raided and just logged out recently because it's all I have left to do and I never get any luck with the forums. They don't reply or ignore me. I really want a chance at level 32 before I get left behind with HoW. I've studied the raids very seriously and want to get involved now. If anyone wants to help please msg me!! Yeah I would love matchmaking. I'm not one of those who's done the raid and is finicky about doing them AGAIN with lesser people. I just want a chance.

                  • I definitely think normal mode should have matchmaking. It should also be required that you have completed all parts of a normal raid prior to being able to engage in raid matchmaking.

                  • Matchmaking for raids would be pointless. Just go do any strike to see why. Almost no one talks and half the time they are afk for several minutes or even forever. Raids require constant good communication. As clunky as forums LFG is, it pretty much guarantees that your random teammates are committed and communicative. I would personally prefer the be some kind of manual LFG system built into the game. Companion app and website are useful, but not everyone has easy access to those.
