Thoughts on "To Pimp A Butterfly"?

Here's two different breakdowns: http://noisey.vice.com/en_uk/blog/the-narrative-guide-to-kendrick-lamars-to-pimp-a-butterfly-2015 http://genius.com/Genius-an-exegetical-study-of-to-pimp-a-butterfly-lyrics/ Here's a review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTmHuavOXNg I know the majority of the users here dislike rap music, but I think a listening of this album will show you the only part modern rap has in this album is the blatant criticism of it. The production is top notch, soul and jazz. None of that Lex Lugar produced Waka Flocka shit. The lyrics, well if you can get over Kendrick's voice, I know many don't like his tone, are just pure poetry. Personally, and I say this being 18 years old and only 4 years old at the turn of the century, so take it with a grain of sand or as a boulder if you wish, I firmly believe this is one of best albums of the 21st century so far, and its been out for 3 days. At least as far as poeticism and meaning goes, this album is powerful. No other figure in music today has this much influence and puts out material like this. In any genre. The entire album is strung together by a poem, which is spoken in parts after the songs, the last word spoken alludes to the next track's topic. All content on the album is summed up by this poem and the "interview" with Tupac at the end. Kendrick has some heavy topics covered, all throughout this poem sequence, which, btw, is all followed by a final poem at the end that even further connects all the tracks into an expertly woven story. Truly, a genius work of art in my mind. Instant classic. What's your opinion on it?

 • I've always liked Kendrick's songs but like you said, his voice just sometimes grates on me. Seems to be the same case with this album, no matter how lyrically good it is.
