1 ReplyEdited by Number279: 3/27/2015 2:40:24 AMCharlemagne, aka Charles the Great, was a Frankish ruler in the Carolingian Dynasty and grandson of Charles Martel (aka Charles the Hammer), who stopped the Muslim invasion of Western Europe at the Battle of Tours. Charlemagne was the first leader recognized as a Roman Emperor in three centuries and is generally considered to be the "father" of Western Europe. He also fought the Saracens in Spain and the famous poem "Song of Roland" is based on that war. In the poem Roland and his guard of 20,000 hold off 400,000 Saracens while Charlemagne's army moves into France. The sword he used, Durandal, was indestructible and Roland hid it under his body when he died because his attempts to destroy it so that it wouldn't be captured proved futile. Durandal was the name Bungie gave to the rampant AI that is one of the primary characters of the Marathon series. I think the older Bungie guys have a thing for Carolingian dynasty and stories that come from it.

It was an old raid that got chopped. Was supposed to hold thorn. It followed suit as a lot of the content did in this game and disappeared. It's probably in HOW or Comet...

But more importantly when the beta was released it was datamined, and some of the information of the game was released there was a level/strike/raid called "[b]Charlemagne's vault[/b] and in the info was originally supposed to be the only way to get the Thorn hand cannon. Which makes me wonder why Deej suddenly mentions Charlemagne...

Charlemagne's vault is where thorn was supposed to be, as well as a bunch of other treasures. Should be coming out in one of the expansions soon, and most likely house of wolves since they are alluding to it now.
