Getting real tired of relic shy people.
[b]Edit:[/b]if you're an experienced relic holder and want to help the beginners learn, and to show them it's not nearly as much pressure as they think, post your system and GT/psn in the comments. Let's make this post a pace to come to for help.
I did vog normal yesterday and when I got to the gatekeeper cp I became painfully aware of how scared everyone else was of using the relic.
I was getting the first one from Mars by myself, pretty much standard procedure, but three times I had to kill the second gatekeeper in Venus using just the relic and then stand in there waiting for someone to come in and pick it up. The one time I had people come in with me, two guys came in and when the relic spawned I sat on top of it waiting for one of them to get it and both of them sat there for literally 5-10 seconds staring at it before we were wiped by the oracle that spawns above the portal.
If you don't have much experience with the relic and you see that not many other people in your team do either. Just pick it up and give it a try, you might be amazed at how simple it is, and personally I think it makes things way easier. Massive melee damage and a super that charges almost immediately that's basically a precision nova bomb.
Edit: if anyone actually wants to practice relic, add me and I'll do my best to help you out. I'm on PS3 and my psn is same as on here. I'll also help anyone who wants to learn sword too.

IMO there should be a race to pick up the relic. I hold down X ( Xbox One ) as soon as I'm teleported because the sooner you sneak up on supplicants the better.

I'm honestly only bad at relic AT the gatekeeper. But I have been very good with it at atheon and even better at templar

More than happy to help I love being relic holder and spend most Sundays doing Sherpa raids my PSN is Jayrangi send me a party chat invite with the subject of the acrid it you would like a hand with more than happy to help. I am a lone Sherpa so only really able to jump into groups that are already set up as my raid buddies are not always as patient as me haha

I'm a defender Titan and am on oracle duty with corrective measure and atheon's epilogue, even if I'm not teleported I jump in as soon as that gate is open to finish them. "You have succumb to the oracles" I never want to read that again, I also drop weapons of light, but it pains me to have to use the relic if I'm teleported and no-one else can use it or kill oracles

I don't mind people not wishing to use the relic whether it be sword or shield as it is alot of pressure and responsibility... I [b]DO[/b] however detest people who refuse to use the relic but then b**** and moan at anyone who's trying when they end up failing which will inevitably happen at times... If you can do it better step up, otherwise sit back, relax...and stfu ^-^

well....back in the "good ol' days" we had dedicated teams doing that. and this is where it started with guardians not wanna touch the relic. i think it was a good idea from bungie to have people teleported by random....from time to time we have "easy mode runs" both at atheons and crota...just to train others how to use the relic or sword ___________________________________________ http://destinystatus.com/psn/RyoIshido

Ps4: lasrquester Im no [i]the legend himself[/i] but i still feel like im good enough to help some people that are inexperienced for the sword/shield. Its a very useful skill, especially when you are playing with randoms (guarantees your spot on the team)

I noticed the same in some LFG groups I've joined. The other night all 5 went to handle Mars while I solo'd Venus. Upon returning from Venus I announced that I had grabbed that relic and was heading to center. Next thing I know, all 5 came back to center and it was a full minute of confusion before I realized no one had grabbed Mars. They got Mars quickly and came back so we didn't wipe, but when it came down to it no one really wanted to hold the relic from that group so they all thought they were off the hook when they heard someone had grabbed it. If you need experience with the relic, there's no better way to do that than just go for gusto and grab it. That's how I learned. In my first raid holding it, they only wanted an experienced person to grab relic. As no one was volunteering, I just said I'd get it - I knew what I was doing. Of course I didn't and I made a lot of mistakes... well, as far as the group knew we were just in a very glitchy VoG.

One of the issues I've come across is that some groups like the Oracle shooters to move down the steps as they shoot, then the next group assume you'll stay at the top. Usually results in someone losing their mind when you're not in the right place for a cleanse. It's like if you have 5 friends in your raid that know what your specific strategy is then fine but if you pick up folks from LFG then you might need to cut some slack.

1 ReplyIf I'm doing the VoG with randoms, I always ask if there's people that can use the relic. If there isn't, I'll give them some practice with it at the Templar. Ignore the Templar, take the relic to the left corner and just let them play around and kill harpies for a while everyone else kills oracles. Practicing at the Templar is best because there's less pressure and harpies are easy to kill. When we get to the Gatekeeper/Atheon, everyone should know how to use it if they have to, might just need a little help with the adds in the portals.

Honestly I've never ran into the portals to grab the relic in VoG. Almost every time I've had someone on my team that could solo one or have a few other guys in the group that could do it. Every time i just stay outside and protect the plates. Anyone have any tips on what to do on each side?

1 Replyhere is the problem. on destiny LFG you get teamed up with guys who basically berrade and hate you if you try to pick up the relic and don't know what youre doing. the problem isn't that people don't know what to do its they don't want to learn what to do. the community has made it very common place for noobs to the VOG to get hated and yelled at because they have no clue what to do with the relic. this would not be an issue if you all would just suck it up and stop yelling at people just because they have never used something before.

I solo both gates. drop first relic for someone to go centre and then stroll on over and solo the second gate.... Too many ppl don't have a clue. Had one guy the other day, a lvl 32, who insisted on bossing everyone around through the whole raid...got to gatekeeper and he's telling me that if no-one touches Venus gate until he's out with Mars relic, we wouldn't go blind when we entered Venus. He refused to believe us when 2 of us start shouting that we are going blind in venus... Naturally he was first to leave once we beat atheon

I did VoG HM last night, we had three people who had little to no experience with relic. Of course, all three of them get sucked in together, and all you can hear is, "you take it!" "No you!" "I suck with it!" "S***! Minotard!" Aaaaand wipe... XD
