How much is "lag" in this game?
Sometimes I sit down and I feel like every move is slow, I don't see guys until I'm dead, I feel like I should have gotten a shot off an I don't, auto rifles (weak ones) feel like on hit kills... and even if I focus more I still suck and am lucky to get a K.D of .75. - and it last game after game.
Other times, like right now. Everything works, I can play either Titan class, shoulder charge like they never see me coming, or stick magnetic grenades on people effortlessly. 2 Iron Banner games, I got high score in both, 3 games around 5000 points. You know, just rolling like your a stud.
How can it be that different? It can't just be competition, I think there is some major, major lag for some people.
and I have a steady connection at 18mps.
(Also, I know my KD is only .99. Don't care, I was terrible when I started playing, and am not going to start over simply so people stop making fun of my K/D...look at my last 20, if you want to see how good or bad I am)

I have been in matches where all 12 people has red bar connection. When I posted the issue in the "Help" forum this one dude from Bungie blame it all on us. Saying it's us the players that have poor connection. Bullshit!

4 RepliesLook my friend, don't get discouraged or upset or down on yourself. I will answer your question pretty clear. Are you ready??? ok.... The PvP aspect of this game is horrible!!!! not just horrible , but one of the worst ever. There is lag, lag switchers, and amazingly bad balance issues. This game is not competitive seriously but its simply a "fake" competitive pvp. Today I played with people who all had thorns in one match, and nearly all matches had a team of 3 or more that kept lagging themselves all over the place making them invincible, sure I get frustrated but ze that it is a joke of a pvp game and almost laughable, especially when others brag so much about k/d on this game. I myself am an elite cod player and have played serious competitive fps for a decade. So don't be hard on yourself, its just a bad game. k/d does not matter, there is not even a ranking system in this game lol. just try to have fun. Several times I will look at my score a third into a match and see myself with 3,000 points and my 5 teammates with 0-900 haha so even the matchmaking is messy

3 RepliesThis is why you tell Bungie to suck a fat one if they make the next game without dedicated servers. I've had an entire lobby of green bar connection and a capture point wouldn't start capturing for three or four seconds. It's a fun game when it runs as it should but when it doesn't it's unplayable trash. Radar shows people in the completely opposite direction, underleveled unkillable players who eat rockets for -blam!- sake and take no damage, cannot get ammo at times.

This seems to improve connectivity problems and lag in the Crucible. Don't get me wrong, there is still the odd game where one dude is lagging like crazy. But mostly, it works fine. It might also be the way you are playing. If you rush into the hot zones like a mad man, then you are going to get smashed, bashed, cooked, booked, hooked, and die to those sploody space magic users and shotgun crazy nutters. Try thinking about engagements in advance. Do something different, usual, and surprise your enemies. It is not so much about weapons or gear ... as it is about out thinking your enemy.

My buddies and I jumped a self rez Warlock on B flag on Shores of Time and killed her with MGs lol. Though what I didn't notice is that the Warlock threw a fusion grenade right before se died. So my buddy says "hey Ben you got a grenade on your face", I then say "wha?" *BOOM* one second later lol. We killed that Warock 10-15 seconds ago, and then the grenade blows up when she was clearly dead AND respawning??? Seriously bad lag.

For me, it's pretty uncommon. Every so often there will be one or two guys lagging, but that's about it.

1 ReplySee if an auto rifle kills you too quick, then most likely the other dude has been shooting at you for a good amount of time. The lag just made it appear like he was only shooting for a few seconds. (Which doesnt give you time to dodge/react/counter)

I know how you feel about the lag, it has killed my k/d. Sometimes I find guys that you kill so it shows up in the corner but the guy still is shooting at you and kills you then dies a few seconds later.

7 RepliesIt's a few thing, I personally think it's the destiny severs that are really the lag bringers I have good connection and every other online game I almost never have a connection issue. But destiny I've been kick sent to orbit, Lagged big time. Stuck in red pawn for minute ect. Thera times it will show red for me yet I don't have any lag be playing like I'm at 100% then there's times where in on green and lag like crazy

With regards to the last gen consoles and lag. I can't speak for the PS3, but the 360 had several gens, could people that lag, be partly due to the fact they are playing on an earlier gen of that console? like the 360 had a core system that had a small HD etc maybe the machines older spec, and therefore struggling, couple that with the fact it's an old machine could it be struggling as it's near the end of it's physical life? My 360 is quite new in 360 terms, and my conn is pretty sound, when I lag it's when everyone is red barring, but usually I am pretty sound.

7 RepliesThe lag is very frequent, particularly on last-gen consoles (i.e. 360, PS3) and during events. It is quite frustrating not being able to play up to your ability, yes.

I noticed IB has significantly more lag than normal Control. I was in cover, came out and started shooting this guy. We had a short gunfight, he was almost dead and so was I, so I threw a grenade and went back to cover. He died and then after that, I heard someone shooting me in the head while in cover. I then died (lol). Turns out that the lag was so bad, that the other dude's shots only registered after he had died...
