it did say that when they were destroyed they were made into made into choppers [Edited on 08.28.2008 3:45 AM PDT]
-
The factories that made them were destroyed and the Spirit dropships went out of service.
-
thing is they can carry 2 ghosts and 30 troops and they have a cannon too kill with i miss it it was awsome!
-
They were outdated and were replaced by the newer Phantoms near the end of the war. They appear in Halo wars, so it looks as though they were the standard Covenant dropship until Halo 2.
-
how???
-
It was inpractical.

It was in use, but for cargo. It was decommissioned by the Prophets about two seconds after the Chief blew up Halo.
-
it was designed to be a cargo ship, not a troop transport
-
Well probably it's just like in todays military when something gets outdated they get rid of it. So it probably got scrapped and replaced with the Phantom.
Posted by: Donkeycheif13 Why i say that they are still around is the fact about the New halo wars trailer.
Halo Wars time-set is before Halo 1.

To the same place where the designers went after they realised hanging the passengers completely immobile and open to fire in front of their enemies was not a good idea. Nah, some Brute Destroyers were carrying Spirits during the Second Battle of Earth (pre-SFTF). Maybe the bigger ships were equipped with Phantoms after Halo 1. The Covenants old tactics were focused on Frigates, Destroyers and Spirits, but later on we see a switch towards Phantoms and Battlecruisers. Most likely the Covenant was bringing its heavy stuff in after losing almost a 1000 destroyer-scale ships in a very short time. This stuff included Phantom-equipped ships. The smaller ships, Frigates and Destroyers, were still carrying Spirits even in the Battle Of Earth, but only the most powerful ships, Assault Carriers and Battlecruisers, made it through the space battle into Earth.

just read that when they crashed they were salvaged and made into choppers

They still have them, they are using the phantoms because they are better suited for the war, and like stated, they can carry more troops at once. Why i say that they are still around is the fact about the New halo wars trailer. The covenant have more space craft than what is shown in all three games. And remember in all three games you never face the entire covenant army at once. Which again, you only see a small portion of the vehicles, spacecraft that the covenant has at their disposal.

forgot about that, that thing was great

But in halo CE i thougght they still had phantoms?
-
Maybe the Phantom is the upgraded version? They could have just stopped using them after they found a better ship. I'm not really sure.
-
... because it makes absolutely no sense as a practical troop transport - Phantoms can carry more people. Sure, it's good for cruising around a Holy relic - but for genociding humanity? Not so much.
